Posted by Tom Ames  |  07/26/07

KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 25, 2007) - On the one year anniversary of Steve King ’s death, the Steve King Foundation will be on hand at the 2007 Knoxville Nationals Aug. 8-11, 2007, to raise awareness of the newly-formed foundation that honors King and is designed to help racing families in their time of need.

The Foundation, a 501(c)3 tax-deductible organization, was founded after the untimely death of Steve King, driver of the #88 Ethanol sprint car from Jetmore, Kan. King, a two-time National Championship Racing Association (NCRA) Sprint Series Champion, died from injuries sustained during a 2006 Knoxville Nationals qualifying night feature.

Race fans are welcome to visit the booth, which will be near the main grandstand entrance, to learn more about the foundation, make charitable donations or purchase merchandise.

A variety of merchandise is being used to help raise funds for the foundation. T-shirts, wristbands embossed with "SteveKingFoundation.org" and "Helping Racing Families Heal," decals and a CD featuring the song, Eighty Eight – A Tribute to Steve King , by Ben Bolling will be available for purchase. All proceeds will be used to aid racing families in need.

Also available for the first time will be a “Race Time” coloring book, a 20-page coloring book featuring scenes from the races, including sprint cars, late models and modifieds. The coloring book, as well as other merchandise is also available at www.SteveKingFoundation.org.

“Our goal is to remember Steve by helping racing families that are in need,” said Danny King, Steve ’s father. “Since Steve’s death, we have been able to provide assistance to nine members of the racing community. We look forward to helping even more families as the community has helped us through the healing process over the last year.”
