Mertztown, PA - Barry White Rallies For Top Five Finish at Five Mile Point
By Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
Barry White and Barry White Racing took a few weeks off from their racing schedule recently to prepare a mid-season acquisition for weekly competiton at the Five Mile Point Speedway. The team took possession of a seldom used 2006 Teo Chassied mount a few weeks ago and with that, the hope to turn the fortunes of the racing team around. If this past Saturday night was any indication of a turnaround for the team, the veteran Mertztown, Pennsylvania, Modified campaigner wants much more of the same in the weeks to come, as White raced to a solid fifth place in the main event.
The feature event began with White starting in third place. As the thundering herd of Modifieds battled into the first turn, a scramble occurred with some bumping and banging as cars were being punted backwards. White was one such racer who lost a bunch of ground in the melee. Bumped back to 8th-place, White went hands up on the wheel as sought to regain the ground he lost. Finding the new mount quite racy, White began to move the car around the racetrack and found the inside line the right path in which to gain back the real estate he lost prior. White worked his way back to third, only to have a right rear tire equalize, causing the car to lose the set-up. White fell back a couple of spots, but still managed to fit into the top five for his best performance of the 2007 racing season thus far.
The "Dream" Brian Weaver won the feature event with the veteran campaigner Mike Colsten settling for second, Tom McGurrin raced to third, JR Hurlburt finished fourth and White, who worked hard throughout the course of the race, settling for fifth. The popular White, known to his faithful legion of racing fans as the "Mighty Man From Mertztown," is hoping to continue with all good outings for the remainder of the season as with his absence, White has fallen out of the top twenty in the points chase.
The new car carries the Barry White signature number 131 and carries the support of longtime sponsor Deka Batteries. A Curt Neiman 358 cubic inch 9 to 1 powerplant supplies the power to the race car and Alcohol is the fuel of choice for the Berks County based race team.
Barry White Racing has always been one of the more popular race teams on the Eastern racing circuit. Friendly, courteous, helpful, and Mom's good cooking to help feed the team and friends, truly highlight their love for racing, as they make the three hour one way trek each week to race at the Five Mile Point Speedway. With their friendly spirit, it is easy to understand the popularity of the "Mighty Man from Mertztown" Barry White.
