CURT MICHAEL RETURNS TO WINNING WAYS, SCORES THIRD URC WIN OF 2007
SATURDAY NIGHT AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY
Curt Michael of Ocean View, DE used a late race restart to his
advantage, passing Trevor Lewis on lap twenty to take the lead and the
victory in the twenty-five lap URC BAR'S LEAKS Sprint Series feature
event Saturday night at the Bridgeport Speedway. For Michael, it was
his third win of the season and thirty-fifth career win under the URC
banner. Michael is the current URC point lead and chasing his fourth
consecutive URC championship title. This event was also a point race
for the Fred's Trailer Parts New Series.
A field of twenty-nine URC sprints cars turned out for the program with
heat race victories going to Mares Stellfox, Brook Weibley and Jason
Clauss as Michael Carber was the winner of the Don Ott "B" Main.
In the 25 lap URC sprint feature, Mares Stellfox was the early race
leader with Trevor Lewis bolting into the top spot on lap three. Lewis
quickly ran to hide from the rest of the field as Stellfox followed in
second with Weibley third, Chris Coyle fourth and Davey Sammons fifth.
On the move was Curt Michael, driving the BK Leasing Palladino #99 and
by lap eight, Michael was already racing in third after starting eighth.
On lap ten, the red flag was displayed when Brian Buckwalter flipped in
turn four. Buckwalter did walk away uninjured. On the restart, Lewis
was the leader with Michael passing Stellfox for second. Lewis had a
comfortable lead and Michael now had to play catch up. Michael was
gaining on Lewis, but it appeared that he would run out of time with
just seven laps remaining.
The big turn of events took place on lap twenty when mechanical problems
slowed the Mark Bitner #15, forcing the caution flag to be displayed as
the Bitner sprinter stopped on the homestretch. This was exactly the
break Michael needed for a shot at the win. On the restart, Michael
took full advantage as Lewis used the outside lane entering turn one,
Michael dove to the bottom to take the lead. Exiting turn two, Michael
moved to the outside groove and quickly built up a six to eight car
length lead over Lewis in the closing laps.
Michael took the win with Trevor Lewis second followed by Chris Coyle,
Dave Ely who advanced twelve positions as Mares Stellfox made up the top
five.

COMING EVENTS:
The Shot Drop/Rislone Sprint Nationals return to the Williams Grove
Speedway on Friday night, August 3rd. A series of five heat race events
and a "B" Main will lead up to the $4,000 to win twenty-five Shot
Drop/Rislone. The following night, Saturday, August 4, the URC BAR'S
LEAKS Sprint Series will visit the Delaware International Speedway.
