Irwin Ices ASCS Sprints on Dirt at Merritt
T.J. Buffenbarger, MERRITT, Mich. (July 28, 2007) – Steve Irwin won Saturday night’s Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by Victor Reinz feature event at Merritt Speedway. Irwin was driving the A.P. Motorsports entry.
Ben Rutan led the first 19 circuits before Irwin stormed into the lead while racing through lapped traffic. Irwin held on for the victory over Rutan, Tim Norman, rookie of the year candidate Ryan Ruhl, and Ryan Grubaugh.
With a third place finish along with Brett Mann finishing eighth Norman reclaimed the points lead. Multiple ASCS SOD feature winner Dustin Daggett battled mechanical issues in his heat race, won the B-Main, and pulled off after two laps of the feature event.
