Oldfield Cleans up at Awards Night

Posted by Tom Ames  |  07/29/07

Reigning Queensland and NSW V8 Dirt Modified Champion Luke Oldfield capped a stellar season on Saturday night by taking out top honours at the Queensland V8 Dirt Modified Association awards ceremony.

120 drivers, crew, family and sponsors gathered at the famous Gambaro’s Restaurant in Paddington to celebrate what was arguably the most successful season ever for V8 Dirt Modifieds in the Sunshine State.

Oldfield, runner-up in the 2007 Australian Title, was awarded the coveted Club Championship before being presented with the inaugural Roosters Cup winner’s trophy.

Queensland’s Mr Consistency, Wayne Harrison-Watt, was also well rewarded for what his best season to date, running a close second to Oldfield in both the Club Championship and Roosters Cup standings.

Returning to competition last season after a stint on the sidelines, Darren Latimer proved to be a formidable force on the Queensland scene, his two Feature victories enough to propel him into Third in both the Club Championship and Roosters Cup standings. The Latimer team were also recognised with the Best Presented Car & Crew award.

The Division Two pointscore was also hotly contested throughout the season, with rookie Ricka Groom taking out the top Division Two honours. Groom collected three awards on the night, also taking out the Rookie of the Year honours, as well as being the leading Division Two driver in the final Roosters Cup standings.

Running second to Groom in the Division Two standings was Rebecca Kiehne. Team-mate to Wayne Harrison-Watt, Kiehne was also awarded the trophy for the Most Improved Driver. Rounding out the top three in the Division Two standings was fellow first year driver Lance Towns.

Livewire Lismore driver Paul Booker was recognised as the Most Supportive Interstate Driver, while Andrew Drake was presented with the award as the Most Travelled Club Member.

Despite only running a limited campaign in his Keith 4 Wheels machine, Matt Pascoe was a popular recipient of the Drivers Driver award, while the Wathan family were recognised for their contribution to the Queensland V8 Dirt Modified Association and were awarded the Club Member of the Year award.

Planning is now well underway for the 2007/08 season in Queensland, which is set to see even more new cars, new drivers and perhaps one or two other suprises…..
