Double 358-Modified Features on Tap This Sunday at Utica-Rome Speedway

VERNON, NY- This Sunday, August 5, Hud Son Forestry Products present another night of exciting professional short track dirt racing with a regular show of 358-Modifieds, Sportsman, Pro Stocks, Pure Stocks, and IMCA Modifieds plus a return visit of the ESDCA Mod Lites. The rain delayed 358-Modified 30-lap feature event from July 8 will start the night of racing off at 5:30 p.m. Gates will open at 3 p.m.



This night of double 358-Modified features could be a pivotal point in two-time defending track champion Willy Decker’s chances at making it three in a row for the $8,000 to win track championship. Currently, Decker trails Stewart Friesen in the chase for the championship with eight point events left on the schedule. Others that have title hopes include Pat Ward, Bobby Varin, Todd Burley, and Ted Lamb. Reaching victory lane continues to be chore with a talented field competing each week at “The Action Track of the East”, a field that includes Gus Schmidt, AJ Romano, Andy Bachetti, Bill Shantel Jr., John Ramsey, Paul Kinney, Gordy Button, and Ryan Phelps.



The Sportsman continue to wage a heated battle for the track title, with defending Mike Button sharing the point lead with Danny Varin going into this past Sunday’s racing events. Alan Barker sits two points behind the top duo with Jeremy Vunk and Matt Janczuk 27 and 28 points back, respectively. Brad Alger sits just outside the top five with Tim Nye, Casey Williams, Larry Wight, and Jim Rothwell filling the rest of the top ten spots.



Tom Denton continues to hold the top spot in the Pro Stocks, with Jerry Holmes, Bret Belden, and Chris Mackey, and Bill Knapp chasing. The rest of the top ten in the standing this fan favorite division shows Chad Ray, AJ Digsby, Jim Normoyle, Shawn Frost, and Ed Ostrander holding those positions.

Russ Marsden continues to pace the Pure Stock field, with Chris Carr, Tim Janczuk, Jim Thomas, and Matt Ball chasing. Rounding out the top ten is Chris Cunningham, Ron Hawker, Keith Stevenson, Curt Prevo, and Waylan Wilczek.



Looking to defend his IMCA Modified division, Jim Roberts is shown as the point leader over Kevan Cook, Aaron Jacobs, Mike Jacobs, and Ken Rogers. Red hot Dale Caswell sits in the sixth position Chris Fleming, Mark Chrzanowski, Lyle Smith, and Jeff Jones.



Admission for this Sunday’s action packed show is just $11 for adults with children nine and under free.
