VERNON , NY- Track regular 358-Modified regular Gus Schmidt has claimed the honor of being the first official entry in Utica-Rome Speedway’s biggest event of the season, the New Yorker 200. Gus Schmidt currently sits in seventh in overall point standings and has five career wins at the track.
On Friday September 14, Charles Tidbits Masonry Construction presents the final leg of the Race of Champions Dart Dirt Sportsman North Series, paying a hefty $2,000 to the winner of the 50 lap affair. The Pure Stocks and IMCA Modifieds will also be in action, with the Pure Stocks competing $500 for their 20 lap event while the 20 lap IMCA main will pay $400 to win.
Then on Saturday, one of the most anticipated events of the season will take place Utica-Rome Speedway with the running of the Gates-Cole Associates/Dart Manufacturing 18th New Yorker 200. Paying $10,000 to win and $1,000 to start, the New Yorker 200 is expected to draw some of the best 358-Modified drivers in the region. Also in competition will be the Pro Stocks, which will compete in a $1,200 to win, 25 lap event.
