HANSON TOPS WISSOTA STREET STOCKS

By Bill Nelson

July 28, 2007

Spring Valley MN

Another beautiful July day fell upon Deer Creek Speedway in Southern Minnesota with a great crowd on hand to enjoy the Adams – Rizzi – Sween night at the speedway along with Firestone Car Care of Austin and Rochester.

Joel Alberts and Mike Sample paced the field in the Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds and completed the first lap side by side while Bob Bunne and Chris Adams had their own race for third. Alberts took control of the lead as Bunne and Adams moved up into a race for second place with Jimmie Arnold and Bryan Hernandez tracking them down and into the top five. The battle for position behind them went three wide two rows deep early on as the drivers vied for every spot on the track. Arnold took over third with fourteen to go while Adams worked on Albert up front. Arnold made his car work as they went three wide for the lead on the next lap. Adams took control with twelve to go followed by Arnold. Bunne and Alberts raced for third with Hernandez being pressured by Bobby Swanson for fifth. A caution with eight to go bunched the field back up with Adams leading. Hernandez now moved into second with Arnold in third. Young hotshoe Brandon Davis worked into the top five and in the waining laps cleared Arnold for third. Adams came home with the win followed by Hernandez.

Danny Hanson, Karl Hewitt Jr. and Scott Olson exited turn two three wide for the lead in the Tim’s Towing and Repair WISSOTA Street Stock division. Olson and Hanson continued the race for the point for the first three laps until Hanson took control. Scot Nelson raced with Hewitt Jr. early for third. Nelson moved into second quickly after taking third and started working low on Hanson for the lead. The two raced side by side for the next four laps until Hanson resumed control of the lead. With eleven to go AJ Zvorak was making the top side of the speedway work and moved into the top five and shorly thereafter into the third spot. A restart with seven to go saw Nathan Finley come alive after starting at the rear of the field. Finley eventually worked past Zvorak for third while Hanson cruised home to the win with point leader Nelson in second.

After a short intermission for some track prep the US Army WISSOTA Super Stocks pulled onto the speedway for their feature event. A big pileup in the first corner saw Jason Gabrielson go pit side along with Bobby Saterdalen. They didn’t learn too well on the restart again they piled into the corner three and four wide but with a little bumping and grinding the supers exited turn two with everyone still moving forward. Josh Bartel held the lead with Ryan Siegle in second. Chris Groth was trying to work the inside of Siegle with Chris Klinger pushing the highside of the speedway trying to get around Groth. In a tight pack the next four laps the second through eighth place cars were two and three wide all around the speedway. A caution with fourteen to go ended the good lead that Bartel had on the field. ON the restart Dustin Nelson moved low on the track and within two laps took over the top spot wth Siegle and Bartel racing for second. The race for second raged on for four laps until Siegle took control. Behind Siegle Ted Marrs and Cole Queensland had slowly worked through the field for third and fourth as they ran pratically side by side for the first part of the race. Queensland eventually took over third and with four to go worked to the outside of Siegle for second. Nelson cruised home with the win by a full straightaway with Queensland and Siegle rounding out the top three. Kevin Hager had a solid run working into fourth with Chris Groth in fifth.

Brad Waits has won a lot of races this season and was unstoppable in the EZ Fabricating USRA Modified feature division. Waits and Tyler Rubin raced out of two for the lead with Waits taking control at the completion of lap one. Brian Shaw moved quickly into the second position while Mike Sorensen quickly worked into a race with Rubin for third. With seventeen to go Waits was already checking out into a half straight lead. Sorensen and Rubin kept their race going until this point when Sorensen took over third and Steve Arpin quickly worked past Rubin for fourth. Two laps later Arpin moved past Sorensen for third while Bob Timm cracked the top five. Shaw started a slide backwards with ten to go finishing in sixth. Arpin and Timm had the best battle for the last ten laps with Timm eventually taking over third Arpin in fourth. Sorensen finished second a full straight behind winner Waits.

Dennis Hillson led lap one of the Valley Featherlite WISSOTA Late Model feature with Neil Eckhart taking the point on lap two. Behind the front duo Lance Matthees, Mike Prochnow and Mark Teske were three wide for third until Teske running the high side of the speedway blasted by Hillson to take over second. A restart with twenty two to go saw Eckhart lead with Teske in second. Teske led lap five with Matthees now working on Eckhart for second. A little further back Nick Herrick cracked the top five and then took over fourth . Another caution with eighteen to go was the last caution of the night. On the restart Teske took off around the high side with Matthees working into second. Herrrick worked past Eckhart for third while Prochnow and Jay Ihrke raced the last ten laps in a great battle for fifth that was eventually taken by Prochnow.
