For the second consecutive year the Mid-Atlantic Championship Series, in conjunction with Ernie Shelton, President of Tylerco Group, USA, LLC, and Racing America Newspaper as well as The Sawyer family at Bill Sawyer's Virginia Motor Speedway, Jamaica, VA, are collectively presenting the Annual USA 100TM on Saturday, August 18th.
The USA 100TM, originated by Shelton , has a long, storied history in the annals of dirt late model racing dating back to 1977. Ernie, certainly no stranger to motorsports has been involved in the sport spanning all levels from NASCAR® to the local bullrings. With 36 years invested in racing, one of his crowing life achievements includes being inducted into the West Virginia Motorsports Hall of Fame. As the 100 founder he presented MACS the opportunity in 2006 for the event to fly under their banner. Shelton commented, We feel the USA 100TM needed affiliated with a major Sanctioning body. I personally have an affinity for the Geesey's and their Series. I have watched them for quite some time, and I am pleased with what they are doing for the sport. I am absolutely thrilled that it (USA 100 TM) is under the MACS series banner again for 2007. The MACS Series is so well structured, with the Geesey's and their staff, with their outstanding event organization and presentation it is a win-win for everyone, Shelton concluded.
The host facility is one of the crown jewels of the south as well as one of the best venues within short track dirt racing, and that is none other than Bill Sawyer's Virginia Motor Speedway. Sawyer, owner of VMS interjected his feeling about the event being at his facility, We are pleased to once again bring the USA 100 TM to Virginia Motor Speedway. I believe Clarke (Sawyer-Speedway General Manager) and his staff can provide the permanent home as well as facility for this event to once again rise to prominence. It is my belief that we took a major step in that direction in 2006. With the Geesey brother's organization as well as the history of this event we certainly are proud to have the opportunity to showcase our facility with such a time honored race.
Jeff Geesey, Series PR Director echoed, We are pleased to be involved once again with the Sawyer's and Ernie to bring this unique format and outstanding show to the fans and drivers. We have had an on-going positive relationship with both parties, and I am elated that we can work collectively to make this show happen at one of the premiere facilities in the country, concluded Geesey.
Shelton's sentiments about the event being at Bill Sawyer's Virginia Motor Speedway, Excitement, that's all I can say! Bill and his entire staff do an outstanding job, and last year's race was a testament to that. I have every confidence that success will be repeated again this year. I feel VMS is one of the finest, state of the art facilities in the nation for showcasing this show. Bill Sawyer's ownership of the venue, and his diligent staff including Clarke, is without any doubt second to none in the industry for surface preparation, facility and fan amenities. Last years show had three and four wide racing all night long thanks to VMS track preparation guru David Law. That is a delight for the fans as well as the drivers, concluded Shelton .
Clarke Sawyer's viewpoint, If you look at the past winners of this event, it is a who's-who among dirt late model racing. We are confident that between the MACS Series, VMS and Mr. Shelton we can all continue to move this show forward restoring the USA 100 TM luster. Last year, the twin 25's were excellent as well as the final 50 lap segment. We couldn't be more pleased for the first time hosting this event. Jeff, Andy and Matt bring their Series to our facility as well as the purse being offered equals an exciting night for the fans and drivers. I think with the opportunity for one driver to win $11,000 with this type of a format, as well as all the drivers that make the final (50) looking at a total, minimum earnings potential of $1,000 for the night; this should produce a lot of interest from both the Series drivers as well as the local, regional cars, and even some of the nationals stars, summarized Sawyer.
The format will once again find qualifying setting the $1,000 to-win, twin 25-lap qualifying events. The top 12 drivers from each of qualifiers will advance straight up into the final 50 lap show paying $10,000 to-win.
