Winner Could be Anybody....

Posted by Tom Ames  |  07/31/07

It’s anybody’s guess who is going to be the victor in any of the Bainer’s Radiator Canadian Modified races held at Brighton Speedway this season. Week in and week out the leader changes, technical difficulties abound and the checkered flag rests in somebody else’s hands. The current division leader, #24 Rob Flindall of Peterborough is yet to take a feature win this season, however he remains consistently a threat to his fellow competitors for the coveted win and overall championship. The winner on July 27th was the #72 of Jeff Sallans from Wooler, who finished second in his qualifier behind the #32 of Doug O’Blenis from Shannonville. It seems that O’Blenis is an obvious threat as he was taken to the garage following the races where he was proudly found legal. “My crew and I spend a fair amount of time in the garage every week. We do our homework and build what we think is a quality engine that will get us to the checker first. Combine that build with my need for speed and no fear in the corners and we have ourselves a race!” said O’Blenis following the post race inspection. It will be interesting for all the fans as the remainder of the season winds down.

Three other drivers that are being consistent faces in the Winner’s Circle are Gary Vandertoorn, of Brighton, #8 in the Mister Signz Pure Stock, Terry Loxley, #8, of Trenton in the Bill’s Johns Comp 4, and Ronnie, “the Rocket” Wadforth in the #40 Brighton Automotive Pro Stock Division. All of them have won at least 3 of the last 4 races and are beginning to accumulate more points toward the championship. Both Vandertoorn and Wadforth are current points leaders in their respective divisions and Loxley os bouncing back strong after some mass mechanical issues at the beginning of the season.

The next race event is the Matthew’s Automotive presentation of the 40th Anniversary Wall of Fame Launch. This chance for Brighton Speedway to salute it’s storied 40 year history and recognize personalities from the past will include the Fireworks from Mystical Distribution. Any former racer at Brighton Speedway is welcomed to attend the races compliments of the Speedway, by contacting Angie at 613-475-1102. Green flag flies at 7:00pm on Saturday August 4th.
