Currier Plastics Opens Hot August Nights At Cayuga County Fair Speedway

Weedsport, NY – July 30, 2007 – Tom Skibinski, Cayuga County Fair Speedway PR Director

The month of August opens Sunday at the home of DIRTcar Racing NorthEast with Currier Plastics Night headlining the show at Cayuga County Fair Speedway on Aug. 5

The mighty Big-Block Modifieds are back in action after two weeks away, joining a full program of DIRTcar action that includes Sportsman Modified, UMP Street Stock and BattleKarz divisions. It’s also ‘Chipper Night’ ---guess what can be thrown into a wood chipper or bring something you always wanted destroyed!--- at the historic Weedsport oval with qualifying races starting at 7 p.m., pit gates unlocking at 4 o’clock and grandstands open to the public at 5 p.m.

Three-time Big-Block feature winner Jimmy Phelps will be out looking to extend his division points lead with runner-up Steve Paine even hungrier as he looks to park his own Troyer machine in victory lane for the first time this season at Cayuga County. Top-5 runners Justin Haers (1 win), Danny Johnson (3) and rising star Derrrick Podsiadlo are each looking for a share of the season-ending points crown while Billy Dunn (1), Vince Vitale and Chad Homan are in search of their own path to the winner’s circle.

A mid-season string of three wins in four races has kept Shawn Donath atop the Sportsman point standings although Jeremy Pitcher has used a trio of 25-lap victories himself to cut the deficit to less than 10 markers heading down the stretch run. Joe Williams (1 win) remains in striking distance with rookie Mike Mahaney (1) and local favorite Tim Currier among the weekly frontrunners.

What the Street Stock class has lacked in numbers has certainly been made up two-fold in trackside competition at the banked 3/8-miler. Nick Rizzo (2 wins) remains the man to beat while Jim Wallace and Steve Woodworth are dead-locked for second in points ahead of UMP Northeast leader and national title contender Dave Mannise.

Bill Werner has topped the points chart since the Enduro class became BattleKarz, collecting four feature wins along the way and earning the first two Nan-Way Newsletter ‘Driver of the Month’ awards. Karl Werner (2 wins) and Nick Werner (1) make up the top-three in points through 11 events.

The following Sunday, Aug. 12, the ‘World Famous Boat Race’ takes center stage at The Port, while on Aug. 19 Cayuga County hosts the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series for Big-Block Modifieds in an event rain-delayed from May 27. The rescheduled Twin 50-lap tour races also make up round four in the 5 Star Series.

With the summer season beginning to wind down, 5-PAK ticket packages continue to be available for all regular events at Cayuga County and sister track Canandaigua (NY) Speedway. Providing a great deal for fans, each 5-PAK of tickets can be purchased for $48.00 which results in the receipt of (1) free ticket. The regular show admission is just $12 for adults (15-64 yrs.), $10 for Seniors (65 yrs. & older) and $5 for youths (10-14 yrs.) while children 9 yrs. & under are free.

For additional schedule information, please contact the DIRTcar NorthEast Office (315/834-6606) during normal business hours or log into www.superdirtcarseries.com anytime to find out more about the entire circuit. Cayuga County Fair Speedway www.cayugacountyfairspeedway.com is located east of the village of Weedsport on Route 31, just one mile from Exit 40 of the New York State Thruway.

The Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series for Big-Block Modifieds is brought to fans across the Northeast by several sponsors and partners, including series sponsors Advance Auto Parts, Hoosier Racing Tire and Sunoco Race Fuels. Promotional partners include AMB i.t., F.X. Caprara Car Companies, Rite Aid Corporation and the University of Northwestern Ohio and the contingency sponsors are Bert Transmission, Bicknell Racing Products, Bilstein Shocks, Brodix Cylinder Heads, Integra Shocks, MSD Ignitions, Miller Electric Manufacturing Company and Wrisco Industries.
