(Woodhull, NY) After a highly successful Legends of Woodhull Reunion last season, fans and current drivers alike are anxiously awaiting Round 2 of the popular gathering at the Woodhull Raceway. Saturday, August 18 will be the date as many of the former greats that once laid their claim to stardom will return to the Steuben County speed plant for the annual get together. “In 2006 we put the deal in motion when a couple of former Woodhull drivers approached Vern and me at the Olean Center Mall Car Show, stated Woodhull’s Public Relations Director, Kenny Shupp. We immediately implemented it into the “06” schedule of events and with the help of guys like Curt VanPelt and a few others the word started getting out and when the night arrived we were overwhelmed with greats from the past.”
This year’s Legends of Woodhull Reunion is expected to be even better than last year’s special night which had the whole Twin Tiers race community buzzing for weeks and now the word is out that August 18 is the date for the annual affair.
Like last year, the track will not send out special invitations; however each driver that can properly identify him or herself will receive free admission along with their spouse or a special quest.
The Legends of Woodhull Reunion is open to any and all former Woodhull Raceway drivers and officials and those attending are encouraged to bring along any photos or memorabilia for display.
“I couldn’t believe the way it went over with the fans last year, stated Shupp. I’ve been a part of the Woodhull family of employees since 1973 and there some drivers who made it back that I hadn’t seen in over 30 years. In fact, there were several that hadn’t returned to Woodhull since the day they hung up the helmet. It was a special night for everyone to say the least.”
On the track it will be a Regular Big 6 Show featuring the L.J. Kennedy Trucking 358 Modifieds, the S&W Awards and Photos Crate Sportsman, the NAPA Super Stocks along with the Morgan’s Auto Repair Street Stocks, the Signs Plus Mini Stocks as well as the LaBarron Brothers Repair and Parts Front Wheel Drive Division.
Gates for the August 18 event open at 4:30 with racing at 6:30.
The management of the track will welcome a new nightly event sponsor to the track as former standout Woodhull competitor and now a Woodhull Legend, Mike Austin along with many of his employees and other collogues of Austin Construction in Campbell will be on board.
The Woodhull Raceway is located 20 miles west of Corning and 20 miles east of Hornell just of Rt. 417 and for more information go to the web at www.woodhullraceway.com.
