Thorold, Ontario (August 4) Dale Planck of Cortland New York became the 9th different Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series Winner last night at the Brewerton Speedway in the Ferris Industries 100.
That means that means that Merrittville Speedway’s biggest event of the year is just two days away as Toolneeds presents the 100 lap Trevor Wilkens Memorial Monday August 6th.
Last summer, one of Planck’s Canadian visits was worth the drive as he won his first Super DIRTcar Series event at the Cornwall Speedway and the next night was the Integra Shocks Fast Timer. Last night he did both at the same event.
After the redraw, Alan Johnson started on the pole with Planck fifth and after a lap 42 restart – Planck took control and checked out – opening up a 12 car advantage at the checkered.
Johnson held on for second with Pat Ward, Justin Haers and Tim Fuller rounding out the top 5. Last year’s winner Jimmy Phelps was 7th while current point leader Brett Hearn came home in 8th.
The point margin closed to just two with Hearn holding his slim lead over Tim Fuller heading into Merrittville’s event.
So – will there be a 10th Series Winner in 2007 after the 100 lap grind at Merrittville?
Will one of the Big Block DIRTcar Stars names be added to the Trevor Wilkens Memorial Trophy donated by Cosco Haulage?
Or will a hometown hero L. St. Amand Enterprises 358 Modified Driver break through as they have many times since the first series event took to the track back in 1972?
The question will be answered in just 3 short days Monday August 6th when the Big Block Stars challenge our own 358’s in the 15th Annual Toolneeds 100 lap Trevor Wilkens Memorial – can you wait till then?
“It’s really anyone’s race,” relates (Merrittville’s) Jim Irvine, “Bicknell and Cosgrove both had awesome runs last year … Chad Brachmann has been strong of late … Wood … Lampman … Richner … Gordon all would like to add another win to their seasons … or we see a new face as the Texaco Havoline Star of the Race?”
