Point Leaders Set ‘Sail’ For Cayuga County Fair Speedway Class Championships

Weedsport, NY – August 6, 2007 – Tom Skibinski, Cayuga County Fair Speedway PR Director

Want to see how fast a boat can go out of water? Be on hand August 12 at Cayuga County Fair Speedway when the ‘World Famous Boat Race’ takes to the banked 3/8-miler on Sunday evening.

Traditional DIRTcar Racing divisions headlining Valley Tire Night at The Port include the premier Big-Block Modifieds, Sportsman Modifieds and Street Stocks, with special appearances made by the Mod Lites and Central New York Mini-Sprints. Qualifying races are slated to start at 7 p.m., pit gates unlock at 4 o’clock and grandstands open to the public at 5 p.m.

Track point leaders continue to show the way with Jimmy Phelps (Modified), Shawn Donath (Sportsman) and Nick Rizzo (Street Stock) each pulling into victory lane this past Sunday to move closer to their first-ever season championship in Cayuga County.

Phelps has copped three of the past four Big-Block main events run at The Port while points runner-up Steve Paine is still in search of his first Weedsport Modified win in five years. Top-5 runners Justin Haers (1 win), Danny Johnson (3) and rising star Derrrick Podsiadlo are each looking for a share of the season-ending points crown while Billy Dunn (1), Vince Vitale and Chad Homan continue to lay the ground work for a future trip to victory lane.

Seven Sportsman feature wins between them have kept frontrunners Donath (4) and Jeremy Pitcher (3) headed toward a late-season confrontation with neither driving retreating in their quest for the coveted Cayuga County crown. Joe Williams, Tim Currier and rookie Mike Mahaney are longshots with just four point shows remaining on the ‘07 CCFS scorecard.

A trio of first-place trophies this season has allowed Nick Rizzo to pull away from the hungry pack of Street Stock chauffeurs, with Steve Woodworth and Jim Wallace running neck-and-neck for the runner-up position ahead of national UMP points contender Dave Mannise and Van Grant.

Bill Werner continues to reign supreme in the season-long BattleKarz points chase, logging four feature wins along the way and earning the first two Nan-Way Newsletter ‘Driver of the Month’ awards for June and July. Karl Werner (3 wins) and Nick Werner (1) keep it all in the family as they remain among the top-three point earners.

The following Sunday, Aug. 19, Cayuga County hosts the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series for Big-Block Modifieds in an event rain-delayed from May 27. The rescheduled Twin 53-lap tour races also make up round four in the 5 Star Series.

As the number of shows left begins to dwindle during the 2007 DIRTcar Racing season in the Northeast, 5-PAK ticket packages continue to be available for all regular events at Cayuga County and sister track Canandaigua (NY) Speedway. Providing a great deal for fans, each 5-PAK of tickets can be purchased for $48.00 which results in the receipt of (1) free ticket. The regular show admission is just $12 for adults (15-64 yrs.), $10 for Seniors (65 yrs. & older) and $5 for youths (10-14 yrs.) while children 9 yrs. & under are free.

For additional schedule information, please contact the DIRTcar NorthEast Office (315/834-6606) during normal business hours or log into www.superdirtcarseries.com anytime to find out more about the entire circuit. Cayuga County Fair Speedway www.cayugacountyfairspeedway.com is located east of the village of Weedsport on Route 31, just one mile from Exit 40 of the New York State Thruway.

The Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series for Big-Block Modifieds is brought to fans across the Northeast by several sponsors and partners, including series sponsors Advance Auto Parts, Hoosier Racing Tire and Sunoco Race Fuels. Promotional partners include AMB i.t., F.X. Caprara Car Companies, Rite Aid Corporation and the University of Northwestern Ohio and the contingency sponsors are Bert Transmission, Bicknell Racing Products, Bilstein Shocks, Brodix Cylinder Heads, Integra Shocks, MSD Ignitions, Miller Electric Manufacturing Company and Wrisco Industries.
