Wall of Fame Unveiled

To honor its proud history, and 40 years of consecutive racing, staff and management of Brighton Speedway unveiled the new Wall of Fame and recognized it’s inaugural inductees on Saturday August 4th. Speedway founder and original promoter Lou Reddom, who opened the speedway in 1967, Doug Davis (#5), who raced for more than a decade, and Ron Herrington (#711), who notably introduced the famous WEDGE Late Model, were the first to be recognized as contributors in the Brighton Speedway family.

When the Mathew’s Automotive, Colborne and Port Hope, race program got underway, it was almost surreal that Terry Hunt of Carrying Place, (traditionally #20), who re-paneled his car for this night, and donned the #711 as a salute to drivers past, would go on to take the Bainer’s Radiator Canadian Modified Feature Win, his first of the season. “It was exciting to be able to announce Ron Herrington’s number as the winner of this race. Both Doug and Ron are remembered as personalities who helped to develop grassroots motorsport racing in the Northumberland/Quinte areas. I believe it is truly fitting that on the night they were recognized for these contributions that Terry would win in his annual salute to these and other drivers of the past. It was a great night of racing!”, said announcer, and long time track staff, Tim Whitehead.

Going along with the night of history, descendents of drivers past visited Victory Lane following the fireworks display by Mystical Distributing. Notable wins went to Brighton Automotive Pro Stock driver Brandon Gregory (#01), grandson of both Earl (#22) and Shelley (#1), and Stacey Ferguson of Picton, daughter of Rick (#10) took her third feature of the season in her #1 Bill’s Johns Comp 4. Adam Wells (#48) rounded out the checkered flag recipients with his first feature win in the Mister Signz Pure Stock Class. Both Wells and Ferguson had double wins on the night.

Be sure to get your tickets for Fast and Furious Weekend as One Ticket Price ($30.00) gets you two full nights of racing. Friday, Aug 19th is the OSCAAR Legends at Kawartha Speedway and Saturday August 11th is the Rapid Rad and Star 93.3 presentation of the SOS Sprints. Sprint fees apply to Saturday night only admissions. Green Flag flies at 7:00pm. For more information on this event or the rest of the 40th Anniversary Season visit www.brightonspeedway.com.
