Every year, Carol Gamble organizes and Don Gamble hosts Lernerville Speedway Nostalgia Night. Drivers of yesteryear come back to fraternize with one another and sign autographs for fans of all ages. The list of names that attend this annual event reads like a Who’s Who of Lernerville Speedway History. Names you see on the pictures that hang in the concession stand and press box, names you may have heard your parents or grandparents talk about, names that take you back to a simpler time, names that will forever be tied to the long and storied history of Lernerville Speedway.
The event was originally scheduled for July 13 but Mother Nature washed it away with a downpour of rain. Instead, Nostalgia Night will be held this Friday August 10 before and during Fab Four Racing.
Below is a list of invited drivers and cars expected to be on hand:
Bob Axe, Johnny Axe, Dick Bailey, Banker Beach, John Beaber, Buddy Cochran, Harley Chuba, Fran Gower, Harry Hein, Doc Harmon, Dave Hoffman, George Leon, Gus Linder, Don Luffy, Andy Lutz, Ed Lynch Sr., Jim Magill, Hoot Martin, Jerry Matus, Clayton Majors, Dave Meloy, Brian Muehlman, Mark Muehlman, Dunk Packdozi, Dave Pegher, Don Pegher, Barry Peters, Ralph Quarterson, Terry Rosenberger, Dave Rupp, Deek Scott, Herb Scott, Smokey Schempp, Gus Sholich, Ron & Barb Smith, Jack Sodeman, Bob Stanford, Dick Swartzlander, Blackie Watt, Bob Wearing Sr., Bill Wheeling
Paul Backus with Deek Scott’s Modified #7A,
Mike Cotter with Bob Kennedy’s Late Model #9
Darwin Stivenson, 36 Chevy Coupe #0
Don Gamble and Walt Wimer will interview some of the drivers over the PA system before Fab Four Racing Action begins. Drivers will also be meeting and signing autographs for fans, so get out your old programs, racing scrapbooks, photo albums, and/or old T-shirts and come meet some of the drivers who have helped make Lernerville Speedway the Action Track.
In addition to Nostalgia Night, this Friday is the second to last race for the Budweiser Points Challenge. Ed Lynch Jr.’s feature win combined with Kevin Schaeffer’s second place finish did very little to change the point standings. Lynch holds a 4 point lead of Schaeffer in the Commercial Truck & Trailer Sprints. Rod George is in third place, only 18 points behind Schaeffer. Those standings will change dramatically this week as Ed Lynch Jr. is scheduled to make his annual haul to the famed Knoxville Nationals. Alex Ferree continues to dominate the Bud Points in the Friedman’s Freshmarkets Late Models, while Matt Lux’s feature win brought him within 10 points of Gary Lyle for second place. Brian Swartzlander leads Del Rougeux Jr. by seven points in the Ferrante Motor Cars Modifieds. Not much change in the Advance Auto Parts Pure Stocks, as points leader Mike Pegher Jr.’s lead is now 33 points over Butch Lambert. Bob Egley made up some ground on both by finishing second, and now sits just four points behind Lambert in third.
Finally, we are just a week and a day away from the long-awaited #1 Cochran Stars of NASCAR Night. Next Thursday August 16 Tony Stewart and Kenny Schrader will visit the Action Track to do battle with the area’s best late model drivers. Advance tickets are still on sale at the speedway office and during this Friday’s Fab Four Racing. Fans will be entered into a ticket drawing for the opportunity to meet and get an autograph from Tony and Kenny.
