It is also Spaulding Foundation Night at the Woodhull Raceway.
(Woodhull, NY) When Rod Spaulding nearly lost his life in a race related accident several years ago it sent shock waves through out the northeast race community. It was shortly there after that a group of concerned fans, car owners, drivers, sponsors and track promoters got together and formed the Rod Spaulding Foundation for Injured Drivers. Over the past decade numerous drivers who have been injured or killed at various tracks across the region have received undisclosed amounts of money to help offset their lost time from work, medical bills or funeral expenses. With the backing of such high profile NASCAR individuals like Ken Schrader and Ray Evernham along with the tireless work of Owego New York’s, Betty Sherwood and her collogues, the Spaulding Foundation is one of the most well organized and perhaps one of the best respected and trusted organizations in the country. On Saturday night, August 25 Woodhull Raceway owner, Vern Wasson will welcome the Spaulding Foundation to the Woodhull Raceway and one dollar from each paid adult general admission will go directly to the Spaulding Fund. “We’ve had a couple situations at Woodhull within the past dozen or so years where drivers have profited from the Spaulding Foundation for on-track related injuries. This is an honest, well run, not for profit organization that truly looks out for the racers in they get hurt or killed at an event and it will be a pleasure for us to donate to the cause,” that according to Wasson.
On the track it will be a Regular Big 6 Show of all of Woodhull’s weekly divisions with the Signs Plus of Kanona Mini Stocks running the final leg of the Black Rock Speedway/Woodhull Raceway Challenge for the rear wheel drive 4 cylinder creations. The first leg, hosted by Black Rock will be run the night before on August 24. The top five in the overall point battle for the two nights will share in an added $200 purse. Last year, the Flying X machine of Rich Sharpsteen II was the overall champion of the series and he will be back to defend his Challenge Title.
Gates for the August 25 show open at 4:30 with racing at 6:30 as the Arnot Mall in Big Flats along with N&R Enterprises of Wellsboro, Pa. will sponsor the night of action.
For Naudette and Rich of N&R Enterprises it will be their first year as a nightly event sponsor and they are thrilled to be a part of the program. N&R also sponsors an infield billboard promoting their construction company on a weekly basis. The Woodhull Raceway and the Arnot Mall have become great partners over the years as the two entities work together on the Annual Woodhull Raceway/Arnot Mall Car Show in the Spring and representatives of the Arnot Mall will be back for their second consecutive year as a nightly sponsor and like N&R Enterprises the Arnot Mall also proudly displays an infield billboard.
