Jacobs Day Gets Better With World Challenge Victory

KNOXVILLE, IA – Dean Jacobs had a good qualifying run for the 47th Annual Super Clean Knoxville Nationals presented by Factory Value Parts but he was unable to make it out of Friday night’s B-Main event.

Although not qualifying for the main event wasn’t what he had in mind, at the end of the night he had a lot of reasons to smile.

Jacobs, of Wooster, OH., picked up the victory in the 16-lap Factory Value Parts World Challenge event taking home $10,000.

“This is a nice consolation after the way I ran today,” said Jacobs. “It’s nice to know that I least made some money. Hopefully I’ll get things going tomorrow.”

Jacobs started on the pole on the event and jumped out in front by beating Chris Schmelzle into turn one.

He continued to lead until lap ten when the caution came out for Ryan Farrell when he spun on the front straightaway.

On the restart, Jacobs again pulled away easily leading the final six laps to score the victory for the Americans.

“It’s a real honor to win this race,” stated Jacobs after the event. “To be mentioned with the other guys that have won this race means a lot to me.”

Ricky Logan, of Knoxville, IA., came home in the second spot after an opening night crash destroyed any chances of making the A-Main on Saturday night.

“This is a real credit to my guys,” said Logan. “They worked all night long while I was laid up in bed. We had a fast racecar last night and today it’s just a shame that things turned out the way they did.”

Daryn Pittman started fifth and brought his no.21 home third completing a top three sweep for the Americans. The first non-American was Kerry Madsen of Australia who finished fourth with Donny Schatz completing the top five.

QUALIFYING: In order to qualify for this event, drivers must be victorious in various international events. The nations represented were the United States, Cananda, Australia and New Zealand.

Factory Value Parts World Challenge (16 laps): Dean Jacobs, Wooster, Ricky Logan, Daryn Pittman, Kerry Madsen, Donny Schatz, Brooke Tatnell, Craig Dollansky, Paul McMahan, Brian Brown, Lynton Jeffrey, Skip Jackson, Toni Lutar, Chris Schmelzle, Bruce White, Ryan Farrell, Garry Lee Maier
