By Martin Bélanger

Cantley, PQ – Friday, August 10, 2007 – On a beautiful Friday night sponsored by Les Toitures Marcel Raymond, a excellent crowd was on hand to see a complete racing program and also a spectacular demolition derby at the end of the night paying 1200$ in prize money.

A field of 13 cars took Pete Bissonnette`s green flag in the 30 lap modified feature. Philippe Landry took the lead over Denis Larocque when Eric Gauvreau had problems with his car in turn 3 on lap 2. Gauvreau had a few words to say to Dave Heaslip. On the restart, Philippe Landry stayed in front while Lee Ladouceur was now in second and Laurent Ladouceur in third on lap 5. Lee Ladouceur was now on the back bumper of Landry and passed him on the backstretch on lap 8, his father Laurent was now behind Lee. Pierre Dagenais used the outside lane to pass Landry and was now third. Lee and Laurent Ladouceur got into traffic on lap 18 with Lee managing to stay in front. The second caution came out on lap 21 for Philippe Landry to bring back the field together. Lee Ladouceur was still the leader and got away from Laurent. Both father and son went for an epic battle for the last laps when Laurent passed Lee in the final lap to capture his sixth feature of the year at Edelweiss. Lee Ladouceur finishes second, Pierre Dagenais third, Philippe Landry fourth and Denis Larocque rounded out the top 5. Laurent was also the champion of the Fondations BRL mini-series he won it by 2 points (194 vs 192) over his son Lee. Dave Heaslip and Eric Gauvreau won the qualifying heats.

Joey Ladouceur grabbed the lead in the 20 lap Pro-Stock feature when Nicolas Gauvreau spun out in turn 2 on lap 2. On the restart, Ladouceur took a good lead over the field. Denis Gauvreau was second and was holding off Dave Bissonnette when an accident occurred in front of the grandstand, which Bissonette was included in on lap 6. Ladouceur kept the lead over Ghyslain Valade who was now second. Nicolas Gauvreau spun out for the second time in turn 2 because of flat tire on lap 9. Valade took the opportunity on the restart to grab the lead over Ladouceur who had problems with his car and the yellow came out on lap 11. Valade stayed in front when Denis Gauvreau slowed and the leader of the race, Valade headed to the pits on lap 14. Ladouceur was back in the lead on the green and was followed by Bissonnette. Denis Gauvreau slowed in turns 2 on lap 18 to bring the yellow out again. Ladouceur led the last two laps to win his fourth feature of the year over Bissonnette, Nicolas Vaillant finished third, Ghyslain Valade fourth and Denis Gauvreau completed the top 5. Denis Gauvreau won the heat race.

In the semi-pro feature, Dominic Gauvreau took the lead over the 15-car field and led the first three laps until he lost his right rear wheel in turn 4 and got hit by a few cars to bring the first caution of the feature. Stéphane Carrière was now the new leader. Alexandre Gagnon grabbed the lead on the green but Bruno Richard passed him from the outside and was now first on lap five. Daniel Guindon and Nico Leblanc got together and Guindon was sent to the back for rough riding on lap 6. Richard kept the lead on the following green. Nico Leblanc slowed on lap 9 and this brought the third caution of the feature. On the restart, Richard stayed him front while Bruno Boivin passed two cars to get into second place and followed closely Richard until Guindon hit the #16 car of Michel Hamelin and he got the black flag and the yellow came out on lap 12. Richard was the still the leader and led the last three laps to win his first feature of the season over Bruno Boivin who finished second. Alexandre Gagnon completed the podium. Dominic Gauvreau, Mark Trudeau and Stéphane Carrière won the qualifying races.

In the 4 cylinders category, 11 cars took the green flag in the 12-lap feature race as Gabriel Mercier took the lead over the field; Martin Lagacé moved up quickly in second spot and was now chasing Mercier. Mercier and Lagacé gave a great show during the complete race with Lagacé finally passing Mercier in front of the grandstand on lap 10 to win the feature over Mercier, Martin Bigras finished third, Jean-Marc Larose finished fourth and Gage Morin rounded out the top 5. Mercier and Bigras had won the heat races.

A great night of racing as the drivers had a very nice track with modifieds running in high 13s during hot laps. The demolition derby had 10 cars in it and was very spectacular and very entertaining with Charles Legendre winning it. Peter Mantha was also at Edelweiss with his World of Outlaw Late Model, he tried his Rocket Chassis during intermission. Next week, the Empire Super Sprints are in town for their second visit of the season, Jeff Cook had won the first race in July. A complete race program is also on the schedule. The 4 cylinders class will have a night off during that night. We suggest the fans to arrive early as the ESS usually draw the best crowds of the season.
