CHRIS COYLE DOMINATES URC MAIN EVENT FOR SECOND WIN OF 2007, ANDERSON
RALLIES TO THIRD IN THE BAR'S LEAKS SPRINT CAR
MIDDLETOWN, NY . . . . .Chris Coyle of Wilmington, DE was
clearly the driver to beat when the URC BAR'S LEAKS Sprint Series
invaded the Orange County Fair Speedway on Saturday night. Coyle
dominated his heat race, established the LikeWise Construction fast time
of the night and collected $2,000 for his win in the twenty-five lap
feature event. This race was also part of the Fred's Trailer Parts New
Series, a mini-point series for all URC events in New York and New
Jersey. In the URC feature event, Coyle took the lead on lap five from
pole sitter Becca Anderson, driver of the BAR'S Leaks sponsored sprint
car. Trevor Lewis finished second with Anderson of Houston, DE
finishing a strong third.
Three heat race events were presented with victories going to Becca
Anderson, Chris Coyle and Scott Pursell. At the start of the URC
feature event, Becca Anderson the lady racer with eight career URC wins
set the early pace. A caution flag was displayed on lap three when
Randy West spun, collecting Mike Haggenbottom and Adam Gordon. On the
restart, Anderson resumed setting the pace with Coyle and Scott Pursell
in the chase.
On lap five, Coyle used the outside lane to take the lead with Anderson
and the BAR'S Leaks sprinter settling into second. Coyle and Anderson
ran to hide from the rest of the field, then came up on lapped traffic
on lap eleven. At the halfway mark, Coyle had a solid lead with
Anderson firmly in second. Trevor Lewis of Upper Black Eddy, PA who
started eleventh, was now racing in third and closing in on Anderson.
Scott Pursell and Jason Clauss followed to make-up the top five.
By lap fifteen, Lewis caught Anderson and blasted into second. Lewis
now began the job of reeling in Chris Coyle. As the laps ticked by,
Lewis was gaining on the leader and with just five laps to go, Lewis had
Coyle in his sight. Then on lap twenty-three, the red flag was
displayed for Davey Sammons, Scott Pursell and Kramer Williamson who
came together in turn three. All drivers walked away from the crash
however, none of the three cars could restart the event.
The field now took the green flag with just two laps remaining. The
caution brought Lewis to the rear bumper of the Chris Coyle sprinter and
this was the break Lewis was looking for. As the field dove into turn
one, Coyle quickly placed a few car lengths between himself and
runner-up Trevor Lewis. In the two final closing laps, Coyle maintained
his lead and dashed under the checker flag to score his second URC win
of the season. Trevor Lewis finished second with Becca Anderson and the
BAR'S Leaks sprinter finishing third with Ed Aikin and Jason Clauss
making up the top five.
