Boumeester Take WISSOTA Midwest Modified Checkers
By Bill Nelson
August 11, 2007
Spring Valley Mn
August is drivers free month at the speedway and also kids month. Every kid walking through the front gates received a free popsicle courtesy of Deer Creek. Out back the drivers all got their pit passes back when they checked into the scoring shack courtesy of Mikes Hard Lemonade, Dirt Doctor Trucking, Olympic Fire and Protection and Greenway Co-Op stores. Each driver also received a free watermelon courtesy of longtime race fan and supporter Chief. 5 random kids drawings were done throughout the night with each kid presenting the feature winner his trophy with each kid able to return home with that trophy at the end of the racing action.
Bobby Swanson was the early leader in the Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature event with Jared Boumeester and Bub Bunne racing for second. Directly behind them Chris Adams and Harlan Morehart had their own race going on for fourth. With two laps completed Boumeester was able to pull alongside of Swanson for the lead and made it stick the next lap. Most of the field still ran in double file formation around the speedway with five laps completed. Morehart started to gain on Swanson for the second position. With seven laps down Boumeester was solidly out front while Swanson, Morehart and Adams ran three wide for second. Jeff Brauer worked inside the top five with five laps left and moved up to race with Adams for fourth briefly being joined by Brandon Davis for a three wide battle. Boumeester stayed strong up front and took home his first feature win in the division with Swanson and Morehart in the top three, Adams and Brauer rounded out the top five. Brauer, Davis and Bunne all won heat races earlier in the night.
Tims Repair and Towing WISSOTA Street Stocks hit the track next with Fred Prudoehl taking the early lead from the front row. Steve Eischens quickly took the top spot away on lap two with AJ Zvorak looking to follow Eischens past Prudoehl. A restart with three completed saw Eischens take the lead followed by Zvorak. Scot Nelson and Tony Horsman both cleared Prudoehl and held their own race for third while all eyes turned up to the leaders. Zvorak moved to the middle of the speedway to try to find some running room. With eight to go the two leaders pulled slongside in a two by two battle. The two ran that way for four laps until Zvorak gained the advantage. With three to go they were again side by side at the line but on the next lap Eischens again held a small lead. As they crossed the line for the white flag still side by side Zvorak held a slight lead. Zvorak was able to slowly pull out to a half car lead at the finish in an exciting finish. Nelson came home third.
The US Army WISSOTA Super Stocks can be a rough and tumble field during feature action and tonight was no exception with the most yellow flags of any class during the feature race, unfortunately taking out a few strong runners. Brian Fetting jumped out to the early lead with Jason Gabrielson taking the high road into second and started putting pressure on Fetting immediately. The first caution flew when Jesse Phelps saw his mount go up in smoke. On the restart another caution flew immediately with a spin in turn three. Two more laps were completed when the third caution of the event was thrown with a great battle getting broke up between DJ Doddelinger and Chris Groth. The final caution flew with thirteen to go with Dondelinger, Kevin Hager, Adam Stockhausen and Bobby Saterdalen all ending their nights except Hager in a pile in turn two. On the restart Gabrielson flew by Fetting on the top side for the lead. Chris Quast sat in third with Cole Queensland in fourth. Fetting wasnt giving up the lead easily and kept working the bottom of the track and with eight to go took control of the lead again taking home the win. Gabrielson, Quast, Queensland and Hager rounded out the top five.
Joe Ludemann recently purchased a former Mark Teske late model and powered into the lead on lap one of the Valley Featherlite WISSOTA Late Model feature. Mike Prochnow moved into second with Nick Herrick quickly falling into the third spot. Two laps in and Herrick was pressuring Prochnow for second and took the spot on lap three. Before completing lap three Herrick was able to power his machine past Ludemann to take over the top spot with Prochnow following through into second. With sixteen to go Keith Foss moved past Ludemann and started working on Prochnow for second. Foss moved into second as a caution flew for a spin of Tony Bloom and the leader Herrick. Herrick moved to pass under Bloom on the bottom of the track the same time Bloom decided to pull into the infield. On the restart Herrick resumed the lead with a slightly damaged mount. Foss took the point on the next lap while Kerry Hanson flew by into the top five. A final caution with eight to go bunched up the field with Foss leading. Prochnow took second with Hanson and Herrick racing for third. Hanson took the spot while Herrick slid back through the field. At the finish it was Foss, Prochnow and Hanson in the top three while Dennis Hillson and Nick Kramer moved into the top five for their best feature finishes in the high powered machines.
After a complete restart in the EZ Fabricating USRA Modifieds Steve Wetzstein led the field out of two. Unfortunately the lead was short lived as he looped the machine in front of the field in turn three and four. On the restart the first five rows stayed two by two for two laps while Todd Scharkey slowed his machine on the top side of the speedway but was able to pull to the infield without bringing out a caution. Josh Reisch took advantage of this moving into the lead while Bob Timm and Tyler Rubin raced for second. Timm took the spot with Brad Waits quickly following into third. Twenty to go and Reisch and Timm raced for the lead. Timm took the spot and moved into lapped traffic with seventeen to go. Waits moved into second as the top two slowly pulled away from the field. Waits closed in on Timm with thirteen to go and the two ran close through lapped traffic. On the last lap heavy traffic played part in the finish with Timm around the bottom and Waits in the middle groove. Timm got pinched in on the bottom while Waits only had one slower car to contend with. Timm was able to hang on by a half car lead over Waits.
Next week racing action starts at 6:00 with all five classes in action.
