BROCKVILLE-The parade of different winners in the 358 Modified division at Brockville Ontario Speedway continued on Saturday night as Bryan Rogers staked his claim taking the 30 lap feature. Among Brockville regulars only Danny O Brien has won more than once in 2007 as the points leader has two victories to his credit.
The last 26 laps of the event ran caution free with Paul Pekkonen leading for awhile before Rogers got past as the high side proved to be the groove to be in most of the evening. O Brien got as close as two car lengths on a couple of occasions, however Rogers was able to power away each time and beat the veteran to the finish line. Bobby Herrington got better as the race went on to finish in the third spot in front of a closing Mike Adderley and Pekkonen.
It was Burnside Window night at the track and Randy Earl intended to present the trophy at the end of the Sportsman feature. However, Earl decided it was better to receive than present as he captured the 20 lap event in impressive fashion easily outdistancing Jason Riddell. Chris Raabe was a strong third followed across the line by Chris Herbison and Shane Pecore. Seven cars were taken out in a front stretch crash on a restart midway through the event.
The Street Stock division ran a special 40 lap invitational event as part of a series including Brockville, Brighton, Edelweiss and Cornwall Speedways. Brockville regular Dana Aikens started on the pole and led the entire distance in a survival of the fittest affair that took almost an hour to complete. 24 cars started with just 7 cars running at the finish. Brighton's Ronnie Wadforth trailed Aikens for the final 25 laps but could never get past settling for second over Edelweiss regular Bruno Richard, Brighton's Doug Anderson and Steve Harrigan of Cornwall. The race was red flagged late after a spectacular barrel roll by Michel Hamelin. Hamelin rolled three times in turn 3 coming to rest in turn 4 but emerging from the car uninjured.
Josh Kane was in fine form as he dominated the 16 lap Rookie feature driving away from the entire field. Joe Banks was second, with Adam Trickey, Chris Bakker and Brandon Henderson rounding out the fast five. Brockville Ontario Speedway returns to action next Saturday night, August 18th with the only appearance of the season by the always popular Empire Super Sprints in addition to the regular program of 358 Modifieds, Sportsman, Street Stocks and Rookies. The green flag drops at 7pm and fans will want to arrive early to stake out good seats for this one.
