Newberrytown, PA (August 11, 2007) – It was Camera and Autograph Night at the Susquehanna Speedway Park on Saturday night with two young future stars picking up their first career feature wins. Dover ’s Cam Zeigler picked up his first career win in the 20-lap Late Model feature event as did Joey Hofferfrom Annville in the exciting 20-lap Street Stock main event. Mike Goodwin from Wellsville won a very entertaining Xtreme Stock Cars 30 lapper. Brian Rehbein won the XSC Rookie Rumble and Daryl Sipe won the Speedway Auto Sales Mini Van feature. Kendra Knaub added to her career feature win total in the W.O.W. (Women on Wheels) Stock Cars. Bill Brown Sr. found his was back to the Classic Cars victory lane. Before the feature events, all fans had the opportunity to meet their favorite drivers face-to-face.
In the 20-lap Late Model feature event, Cam Zeigler jumped out to the early lead from outside the front row and never looked back. A few cautions put the veterans on Zeiglers bumper, but they were unable to shake him up to take his lead. At the end, Zeigler was victorious over Jakes Jones, Bud Barton, Carl Billet and Chuck Yingling. Rounding out the top ten were Scott Richwine, Randy Christine, Jr., Bud Witmer, Justin Ehrhart and Sam Leonard, Jr. John Mosers, Jr., Barton and Yingling each won their respective heat races.
The 20-lap Street Stock feature found Joey Hoffer finally reaching victory lane after taking the lead from Kevin Sigler on the second lap. Sigler finished second, followed by Steven Dove, Wes Alleman and Scott Thunberg. Todd Bowersox, Dustin Hollinger, Paul Morgan, Craig Morgan and Jim Rost, Sr. completed the top ten. Heat race winners were Sigler, Alleman and Carmen Caltabiano.
The 30-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature event had Andrew Frye jump out to the early lead looking for his first career feature win as well. However, on lap 11, Brent Fogelsanger extinguished those hopes as he grabbed the lead from Frye. Frye continued to challenge as a ten car battle for third developed behind him. Mike Goodwin and Matt Wampler made their way by Frye to challenge Fogelsanger. In the waning stages of the race, Fogelsanger and Wampler made contact on the frontstretch, allowing Goodwin to grad the lead and continue on for the victory. Fogelsanger held on for second, followed by Sam Rial, Wampler and Frye. Thomas Johns, Jason Failor, Chris Heller, Rich Lomman and Travis Horan rounded out the top ten.
Brian Rehbein won his third XSC Rookie Rumble feature event over Daryl Sipe, Jerry Runkle, Nolan Barshinger and Renee Luckenbaugh.
Bill Brown, Sr. took the lead from Joe Snodgrass on the ninth lap of the 15-lap Classic Car feature event. Brown went on to claim the victory followed by Snodgrass, Brian Diehl, Kurt Welsh and Jim Crocker.
Kendra Knaub won her fifth feature win of the season in the 15-lap Women on Wheels Stock Car feature after early leader Nancy Frye dropped out. Karen Hawthorne finished second, followed by Kim Flanagan, Renee Luckenbaugh and Amy Rehbein.
Daryl Sipe ended Butch Richcreek’s three consecutive win streak in the 10-lap Speedway Auto Sales Mini Van feature event. Rickcreek finished second, followed by Jeff Svendsen who led the first 8 laps of the feature event. Brandon Ort and Kimberly Martino rounded out the top five.
Larry Anderson from Mechanicsburg took the ride of his life as she was the winner for the Superior Home Race Car Ride-Along with Ray Broderick. He received a few laps in the passenger seat of Ray’s Xtreme Stock Car. Every week one ticket will be drawn from the adult general admission tickets to win a ride for the week after. This week’s winner for the ride-along on Saturday, August 18 is Beth Christine from Manchester .
On Saturday, August 18, Stock Car Saturday Night returns with the Clean Technologies Young Guns Shootout along with the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stocks, Four Cylinder Stock Cars and Mini Vans.
On Saturday night, the pit gates will open for pit pass sales at 4:30 p.m. Drivers, crews and haulers may enter at 3:00 p.m. for the SSP Picnic in the Pits. Grandstand gates will open at 5:00 p.m. Warmups begin at 6:30 p.m. with qualifying races at 7:00 p.m. followed by consolation races and feature events.
Then on Sunday, August 19 racing returns with Camera & Autograph Night for the rain-postponed Memorial Day Spectacular from Sunday night, May 27 featuring the Central PA 358 Sprint Cars, ARDC Midgets, Legends Cars and PENN MAR Vintage Cars. The 20-lap 358 Sprint Car feature event will be presented by Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic from Finksburg , Maryland paying $1,200 to the winner. Hoosier Tires will be the only tire permitted on all four corners of the car. Mufflers are not required for the 358 Sprint Cars only. Both pit and grandstand rainchecks may be used from May 27 at any race during the next three weeks (until Saturday, June 16) or for the race on Sunday, August 19. Since no cars were able to qualify before the rains hit the speedway, new entries for the race on August 19 will be permitted. All fans will have the opportunity to meet their favorite drivers with their cars on the frontstretch before the feature events begin.
On Sunday night, the pit gates will open 3:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 4:00 p.m. Warmups begin at 5:30 p.m. with qualifying races at 6:00 p.m. followed by consolation races and feature events.
General Admission Grandstand ticket prices for both Saturday and Sunday nights will be Adults and Teens (13 & older) $12.00; Children (12 & under) are free. Pit pass prices are $20.00 with a reduced price of $18.00 for all pit competitor license holders. The minimum age requirement to purchase a pit pass is 14 years of age with a copy of a birth certificate is required for all ages 14 to 17.
There is a $2.00 repeat fan discount for each person with a ticket stub from races during the previous week’s events completed only. Returning fans are encouraged to write their name, address and phone number on the back of the stub to be entered into special drawings during the season for great prizes. Last season, 10 winners were drawn from the repeat fans and each winner received $30 in SSP Gift Certificates for tickets or concessions. The Repeat Fan Discount is not valid for pit pass purchases.
