VERNON, NY- Nye Auto Group and Andy’s Speed Shop will present another exciting racing program this Sunday, August 19, at the Utica-Rome Speedway. Twin 20 lap features for the 358-Modifieds will highlight the evening, with double point events for the Sportsman, Pro Stocks, and Pure Stocks. The IMCA Modifieds will compete in a regular point show. Also, the Sportsman winner will receive at set heads from Dart Machinery. Gates open at 3 p.m. with racing at 5:30 p.m.

Stewart Friesen is the current 358-Modified Utica - Rome Speedway point leader, and with 20 lap features with each paying full points, his finishes this Sunday could have a huge effect on his chances to take home the $8,000 track title. Red hot Pat Ward, defending two-time track champion Willy Decker, Bobby Varin, and Todd Burley all still have title hopes going into this event. Other drivers that compete weekly at the Vernon oval contending for the win include Ted Lamb, Gus Schmidt, Bill Shantel Jr., John Ramsey, AJ Romano, Paul Kinney, Gordy Button, and more.

Although winless so far this season, defending Sportsman champion Mike Button is shown as the point leader in the very competitive Sportsman division. With double points up for grabs, Button will have to continue his consistent runs of top five finishes to keep Alan Barker, Danny Varin, Matt Janczuk, and Jeremy Vunk. The winner of this week’s event will be presented with a certificate for a set of heads, courtesy of Dart Machinery.

Jerry Holmes is back in familiar territory, and that is on top of the Pro Stock rankings. The four-time champion is looking to add a fifth title to his resume, and to do so Holmes will have to hold off Tom Denton, Bret Belden, Chris Mackey, and Bill Knapp.

In the Pure Stock ranks, Russ Marsden is again showing the way around the half mile speedway, collecting seven wins en route to the point lead. Chris Carr, Tim Janczuk, Matt Ball, and Jim Thomas are just a few drivers that would like to advantage of any bad luck by Marsden on double point night.

A look at the IMCA Modified point standings show Jim Roberts atop the standing, ahead of Kevan Cook, Aaron Jacobs, Mike Jacobs, and Dale Caswell. This show will pay normal IMCA points, as per IMCA rulebook.

General admission for this action packed show is set at $11 for adults with children nine and under admitted for free.

Utica-Rome Speedway is located on Route 5 in Vernon NY , just minutes from the New York State Thruway Exit 33. For more information, please log on to www.uticaromespeedway.com or call the speedway office at (315) 829-4557.
