Don Harvey Scores Mini Sprint Slam Before Rain Cancels Cayuga County

Weedsport, NY – August 12, 2007 – By Gary M. Spaid, Cayuga County Fair Speedway PR

Donald Harvey, from Milford , NY , powered to a Central New York Mini-Sprint victory on Sunday at the Cayuga County Fair Speedway before rains fell forcing the remainder of the program to be canceled. It was Harvey ’s fourth win in as many outings this season at The Port.

Ninety-three race cars were on hand for the Five Star program; DIRTcar Modifieds, Sportsman Modifieds, Street Stocks, Mini-Sprints and ESDCA Mod Lites. Also canceled was the “World Famous Boat Race,” which has been added to the August 26 program of “Fire & Destruction”. Any fan holding a valid ticket stub for Sunday’s program can use that stub towards a $2 discount for the “Fire & Destruction” show.

The Sportsman main has been added to the September 2 Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series card, making for double Sportsman features. The Modified, Mod Lite and Street Stock features are being looked at to find the best make up date possible. Look for press releases covering each of these rain delayed races.

At the start of the 20-lap Central New York Mini-Sprint main two sprinters rolled over in the first turn as the green flag flew. Both Nathan Stefl and Mike Emoff made contact with the outside concrete wall and rolled over simultaneously causing the red flag to fly.

Once the track was ready the green lights reappeared, this time with Michael Kiser in front of the 19-car field. Kiser was about to see that you never know the results until the “fat lady sings.” On lap five, Kiser spun around in the second turn and handed the feature lead over to Harvey, who was continually nagged by Jim Broderick as these two broke away from the rest of the field.

One additional yellow flag flew on lap 15 when Justin Phillips spun out in the second turn. The top-five at the drop of the checkers were Harvey, Broderick, Fredrick Hoffman, Gerald Sehn Jr. and Jared Fink. Rains started to fall in the middle of the CNY program, but never became heavy enough to stop the race.

CAYUGA COUNTY NOTES : A four-car accident took place in the second Modified heat race. Involved and needing to make repairs were heavy hitters Billy Dunn, Derrick Podsiadlo, Steve Paine and multi-time feature winner and division points leader Jimmy Phelps….Dan Williams had the first Mod Lite heat sewn up until his motor let go exiting the third turn on the final lap. He ended up finishing last in his heat race….Heat points were earned in both the Modifieds and Sportsman ranks…Members of the Kids Club ran their “Box Car” races during intermission. There were a number of very creative boxes turned into “race cars”….Nuisance rains persisted throughout the evening ending in the area after 11 p.m.

This coming Sunday will find the “Cars and Stars” of the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series in town on August 19 to make up the Hall of Fame Classic, originally scheduled to run in May. It will be Fan Foto Autograph night. Both DIRTcar Modified 53-lap features will also count in the DIRTcar Modified Five Star Mini-Series points. The program will be rounded out by Sportsman Modifieds, Street Stocks, BattleKarz and NY Modified Midgets. Race time is 7 p.m. sharp.
