Norman Leads ASCS Sprints on Dirt to Owendale on Saturday


Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (August 14, 2007) – With his sights set on a third series title, Tim Norman of Warsaw, IN, leads the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by Victor Reinz into Saturday night's event at Michigan's Owendale Speedway.



Saturday's card is a make up of the event originally scheduled for July 14 that was postponed by rain.



While Norman holds the series lead after capturing SOD titles in both 1985 and 2005, Brett Mann of Goshen, IN, is nipping at his heels just twelve points off the lead pace.



Ben Rutan of Jerome, MI, enters the event ranked third, just 48 points off the lead pace, with Gary Fast of Kalkaska, MI, and Bill Johnson of Linden, MI, rounding out the current top five.



The balance of the current top ten in ASCS Sprints on Dirt points includes 2005 ASCS Sprints on Dirt Owendale winner Joe Bares (Traverse City, MI), Ryan Ruhl (Angola, IN), Ryan Grubaugh (St. Johns, MI), Jake Stebner (Elmira, MI) and Dustin Daggett (Portland, MI), with Hastings, MI, shoe Kirk Cheney just 13 points out of the top ten in eleventh.



Columbiaville, Michigan's Steve Irwin, who has topped the most recent pair of ASCS Sprints on Dirt events this year, topped last season's series stop at Owendale Speedway.



Saturday's racing action at Owendale Speedway is set to go green at 7:00 p.m.



The semi-banked, ¼-mile Owendale Speedway dirt oval is located 2.8 miles easta of the flashing light in Owendale, MI, on Sebewaing Road. For more information, contact the track at 989-678-4447.



The 28th year of action for the ASCS Sprints on Dirt consists of 20 championship events at ten different tracks throughout Michigan as well as Ontario.



The 2007 season marks the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series. With a dozen different Regions in addition to the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, ASCS will sanction approximately 240 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.
