DOLLAR DAYZ" & FREE BEAVER COUNTY NIGHT HEADLINE PROMOTIONS SATURDAY AT MERCER; 5 DIVISIONS OF RACING ON TAP

By Mike Leone

August 14, 2007 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Mercer, PA).Mercer Raceway Park will look to complete the 12th straight night of racing this Saturday night, August 18. It will be the final non-special event of the season for the Luxaire Heating & Cooling Sprint Cars, American Racer/Lias Tire Modifieds, Tire Express Stock Cars, Big Daddy's Speed Center Mod Lites, and the M&D Paving Mini Stocks with racing at 7 p.m. Saturday's promotion is "Dollar Dayz" presented by Coca-Cola and free Beaver County Night.

"Dollar Dayz" will feature just $1 admission for students 6-15, which is a $4 savings. Also, hot dogs, fries, popcorn, and soda will all be only $1 for everyone. "Each year we like to try different promotions offering back discounts and savings to our fans so it's more affordable for them to attend," explained Emig. "The first Dollar Dayz back on May 5 went over well so we're looking forward to Saturday."

Residents from Beaver County will want to take advantage of a free night Saturday! By simply showing valid ID with a Beaver County address, those residents and all accompanying children will be granted free general admission into the grandstands.

"This is actually the second Beaver County Night," explained owner Vicki Emig. "The first one was held on April 28 and that was the worst weather night we raced this year plus the weather was even worse in Beaver County so we decided to add this second one. It will be a great night for those from Beaver County to attend as they will not only get in free, but can take advantage of the low food prices."

On to the racing. Rod George is fresh off his first career non-winged victory in his storied Sprint Car career. The Kittanning, Pa. driver leads the entire Northeast with wins this season at 20 with eight of those coming at Mercer. George is closing in on his second Mercer championship and simply needs to finish 16th or better in the last three races. He currently leads two-time winner Arnie Kent, who missed a night to go on vacation, by 75 points.

Rookie racer Eric Gabany became the season's eighth different Modified winner last Saturday with his first career win in the non-stop 20 lapper. Garrett Krummert is one of only two racers to make all 16 nights this season and has used consistency to stay atop the point chase. The New Castle, Pa. youngster is in search of not only his first championship, but also first career win. Krummert leads three-time winner Rodney Beltz by 36 points.

For the third time this season Brian Booher was denied his fourth straight win. This time the Sandy Lake, Pa. 10-time winner was stopped by another rookie racer and fellow Sandy Lake driver Chris Haines, who captured his first career win. Booher is one win shy of setting the track's all-time Stock Car win record. Despite missing a night for vacation, Andy Buckley is second and trails Booher by 65 points.

After being shutout of victory lane for over one month, Rod Jones returned to victory lane last Saturday to record his seventh win and extended his point lead to seven over fellow West Middlesex, Pa. driver Mark Marcucci in the Mod Lite division. The big announcement for the division was not only the addition of the class on day two of the Little Guy Nationals giving them two complete shows on September 28 and 29, but the fact that STAR's Director Bill Bauer has now accumulated $1,000 of sponsorship, which will go directly into the purse boosting day two's winner's share to $1,000!

Bill Fuchs was able to capture his third Mini Stock win of the season last Saturday. With seven-time winner Lucas Sprouse a no-show, Mike Anderson (Jr.) was able to catapult into the point lead with Pete Wearing moving into second. Anderson and Wearing both have two wins, but Wearing trails the Harmony, Pa. teenager by 25 points. Two more new cars turned out last Saturday night raising the total number of cars competing this year to 28.

Pits open at 3:30 p.m. and grandstands open at 4:30 p.m. Hot laps are slated for 6:15 p.m. and the first green flag will wave at 7 p.m. Adult admission is $11. The family pass for mom, dad, and up to four kids 15 and under is $25. Students 6-15 are $1. Children five and under are free. Pit passes are $25.
