Verne's Post $1500 in Bonus Money for IRA at Antigo
Antigo, WI (Aug 12, 2007): With less than one week until the biggest race of the summer at the Langlade Speedway, Verne's of Antigo has stepped up to sweeten the Forest County Potawatomi's "Summer Sizzler", presented by One Prospect Technologies.
As he has in the past, Verne's Off-Road will post a $1,000 bonus for any car that can win their heat race and then follow it up with a feature win later that evening. Then, as if that was not enough, there is an extra $500 if that driver also has the night's quickest time. Added to the posted purse, with bonuses, one driver could walk out of Antigo with over $5,000 in winnings for the night. "Racing at this level commands this kind of support", comment Verne, distributor of Honda, Artic Cat, Suzuki and Kawasaki Off-Road equipment located on the North side of Antigo. "We've supported this race in the past and from my personal experience, I know that this event really brings out the best in everyone. I wasn't exactly sure what was going on earlier this year when the midgets came in, but now that I am sure that the outlaws are coming back, I'm in"!
In 2006, Oklahoma's Wayne Johnson cashed in on $1000 from Verne's on the Friday night portion of the 2 day show en-route to a 2-day sweep. The 2007 version returns to a 1-day format as the series will be competing at the Kenosha County Fairgrounds on the previous night. ""Racing after the Knoxville Nationals this year could be a blessing in disguise," comments IRA President Steve Sinclair. "Knoxville is off that night and with this kind of money up for grabs, along with Antigo's reputation as being one of the region's finest facilities, we may see more cars travel in to compete against our own contingent. With Outlaw type racing such as this, you never know though." Confirmed for the show however include defending IRA Champion and previous winner of the Sizzler, Travis Whitney as well as Scotty Neitzel, Donny Goeden, along with a host of IRA regulars, as well as last year's winner Wayne Johnson, who is coming off a big night at the Knoxville Nationals, finishing 11th against 112 entries worldwide in the 4-day super bowl of sprint car racing. "We're looking forward to Antigo", commented car owner Al Christoffer after his 5th straight successful attempt at the Nationals. "We've been fortunate in that respect; just making the A-Main once is a big thing in this sport and to do it 5 straight years directly from our qualifying night speaks volumes about our driver (Wayne) and our team. After the stress of Knoxville, getting back to racing and having fun at Antigo will be more than welcome".
The Summer Sizzler will begin with time trials at approx 6:30pm with racing to follow immediately afterward. Also on the card will be the annual Street Stock/Race Truck Shootout as they go for a $300 to win purse plus, one driver will be racing for a $500 bonus in the FATTFRO Challenge. Grandstands open at 5pm with general admission tickets at only $15 for adults with children 6-12 admitted for only $5. Pit admission is also available (no alcohol in pit area) for $25 with bleacher seating and concessions available. Rough camping is also available on the grounds.
