Big events close out Fremont Speedway season.

By Brian Liskai

FREMONT, Ohio (Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007) - Fremont Speedway will close out the 2007 season - it's 56th - in a big way. While the track sits idle the next two weeks for the traditional Sandusky County Fair, plans are being put into place for the final three races which will offer big purses and exciting action.

Racing heats back up on Sunday, Sept. 2 for the 8th Annual Burns Iron & Metal 305 Sprint Invitational which will pay the feature winner $2,500! This race offers one of the richest purses in the country for 305 sprints. The Fremont Fence Dirt Trucks and the door-banging school buses will also be in action. The vintage race machines will also be on display and in action.

"The Track That Action Built" returns to its traditional Saturday night racing on Sept. 8 as Miller Beer Night will pay the winner of the Fort Ball Pizza Palace 410 Sprint feature $5,000! The Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprints and Fremont Fence Dirt Trucks will also be in action.

Fremont Speedway will put a wrap on the 2007 season with the richest purse in its 56-year history on Saturday, Sept. 15. The night includes five features among the three divisions - Fort Ball Pizza Palace 410 Sprints, Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprints and Fremont Fence Dirt Trucks.

The season championship night - the Chuck Kear Memorial which pays tribute to the founder of the Tiffin, Ohio-based speed shop - will pay the winner of the 410 sprint feature $15,000! The purse includes a feature starting pay of $600. The winner will also take home a new Revolution XXX Chassis.

The season wrap-up night will also be special for the 305 sprints and dirt trucks. Both divisions will be split into two complete fields - odds and evens in the points (i.e. drivers 1, 3, 5, 7, etc. in one field and drivers 2, 4, 6, 8, etc. in the other). Each 305 sprint feature will pay $1,000 to the winner. And, the winning driver from the two features that passes the most cars (from his regular starting position) will take home a new Revolution XXX Chassis!

The two truck features will each pay the winner $1,000 as well!

The season-finale is made possible thanks to the generous support of the following sponsors: True Value Hardware of Woodville, Kear's Speed Shop, S&S Construction, B&S Racing, R&R Auto Wrecking, Beaverdam Contracting, G.L. Heller Company, Fremont Fence, Vision Quest, Gene Smith and the Sandusky County Agricultural Society.

The Sept. 15 night will be bitter-sweet. Not only does it close out the 2007 racing season at Fremont Speedway, but it will also be the last night of promotion by the Jim & Joanne Ford family who have operated the historic race track the past eight years.

"This old speedway was pretty close to never seeing racing ever again back in 1999...so was 410 sprint racing in northwest Ohio. We just couldn't let that happen. My family decided to take on the challenge of restoring Fremont Speedway back to its glory. It's been a lot of hard work, a lot of sacrifice, but more importantly...a lot of fun," said Jim Ford. "We've met a lot of great people along the way, and forged many lifelong friendships. The fans, drivers, crews, team owners, sponsors...everyone has taken us into their family and have helped us through some pretty tough times. We have also shared in their joys, frustrations and sorrows...that's what makes it so tough to leave. But, it's time for someone else to take the reins and continue leading this grand old place."
