MARK SMITH, FRED RAHMER, DON KREITZ WIN AT WILLIAMS GROVE
MECHANICSBURG, PA – Mark Smith, Fred Rahmer and Don Kreitz, Jr. won 20-lap features in the Jack Gunn Memorial for sprint cars presented by Embarq Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway.
Rahmer started third in the first feature and used a low line exiting turn four at the start to slide under front row starter Mark Smith and Alan Krimes.
Once in front Rahmer held on for his first win since May 27, 2006, at Williams Grove and became the 16th different driver to win a 410 c.i. sprint car feature at the Grove this season. Rahmer is the speedway’s career win leader with 74.
Although he was still feeling the effects of a back injury suffered a week earlier at the Knoxville Nationals, he refused to allow it to hamper his performance in the first feature.
Smith settled for second place, just three car lengths behind Rahmer.
Todd Shaffer charged from 14th to third.
Alan Krimes and Don Kreitz completed the top five ahead of Doug Esh, Greg Hodnett, Jeff Shepard, Kevin Nouse and Brian Leppo.
Kreitz used the inside line to take the lead from Doug Esh exiting the second corner on the first lap of the second feature, then cruised to his second victory of the season and 52nd of his career at Williams Grove.
Esh settled for second with Hodnett third, Shaffer fourth and Krimes fifth.
Rahmer, Lucas Wolfe, Shepard, Brian Leppo and Smith completed the top ten.
Smith used a spectacular inside move through turns three and four on the last lap to take the lead from Krimes and scored a $5000 victory, his second win of the season at Williams Grove.
Krimes, who beat Smith into the first turn at the start and led until the final corner, settled for second. Shaffer claimed third and took the lead in the Cindy Rowe Auto Glass point standings. Wolfe finished fourth and earned the York County Racing Club Hard Charger Award.
Esh, Rahmer, Hodnett, Kreitz, Niki Young and Craig Keel completed the top ten.
Brian Leppo out-qualified the 37-car field with a lap of 17.535.
Heats were won by Lance Dewease and Todd Shaffer.
