Horstman Wins Mini Sprint Madness - Hull Rules

Once a year, the 600cc mini sprints converge on the famed high-banks of Limaland Motorsports Park. This year, 27 of the very best mini sprints in the Midwest filled the pits and showed the loyal Limaland fans how close and exciting their racing can be.

Jared Horstman has logged a lot of laps at Limaland Motorsports Park in his 360 sprint car. Horstman races in the Elwer Fence Sprint division on a weekly basis and competes in the EFI-NRA Sprint Invaders series. Horstman was never a factor in the previous two Mini Sprint events at Ohio's Quarter-Mile of Thunder. This year, Horstman used his pole starting spot to stamp his name in the history books. At the drop of the green, Horstman waved good bye to the field and led every lap en route to his victory.

Terry Hull held a slim point lead of 22 points over Todd Sherman as the Professional Computer Modified feature began. Andy Bibler and Shane O'Connor held the front row spots while Sherman rolled off third and Hull started in sixth. Andy Bibler took the early lead while Sherman and O'Connor dueled for second. After disposing of O'Connor, Sherman snatched the lead from Bibler by lap six.

In the mean time, Hull was doing what he has done all year, slowly and methodically pass cars on his way to the front. By lap eight, he had moved to Sherman's bumper and on lap eleven, Hull passed Sherman for the eventual win. As the laps clicked off, Hull had a big scare on the backstretch when Brandon Vaughn spun directly in front of him. Hull deftly avoided any contact and prepared for the restart. When the green flag waved again, Hull busted out to a nice lead and Jon Henry used the high-side to blast past Sherman for second.

With just two races remaining, The Professional Computer Company Modified championship may be determined by a bad heat race or a mechanical failure. Hull and Sherman continue to finish in the top five each week and Hull is doing exactly what he needs to do------WIN RACES!

Tim Rostorfer showed that he had regained his early season form in while leading the early laps of the Bud Thunderstock 15-lap feature. Rostorfer spent the first half of the race holding off Bob Baldwin, rookie driver for one of the University of Northwestern Ohio's student stock car teams. Baldwin tried to gain an advantage under Rostorfer but was rebuffed in every corner. Behind Baldwin, the king of the Bud Thunderstocks, Jeff Babcock, was planning his surge to the front.

Baldwin left the door open on lap six and by the eighth circuit; Babcock had taken the lead from Rostorfer. Just behind Babcock was Earnie Woodard. Woodard knew he would have to start taking large chunks out of Tony Anderson's 78-point lead if he was going to keep Anderson from winning his third straight Bud Thunderstock championship. His second place finish helped the cause but Anderson was close enough (7th place) to keep the loss of points to a minimum.

Your next chance to be part of the celebration of 72 years of racing action is next week when EFI-NRA Sprint Invaders roll into Limaland for their final race of the season. Phil Gressman has a 20-point lead over Mike Dussel and a 42-point lead over Mike Brecht. Someone will be leaving with the 2007 title. The Professional Computer Company Modifieds and Bud Thunderstocks will continue to settle their championship battles as well. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. and racing on America's premier quarter-mile begins at 7:30 p.m.
