Grubaugh Grabs ASCS SOD Gold at Owendale


T.J. Buffenbarger, OWENDALE, Mich. (August 18, 2007) – Ryan Grubaugh won Saturday night’s Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by Victor Reinz feature event at Owendale Speedway. Grubaugh had to overcome battles with Gregg Dalman and rookie of the year candidate Jake Stebner before pulling away from Ben Rutan during several late race restarts.



“First off I have to thank my Dad,” said Gubaugh in victory lane. “We’ve had a terrible season so far, and without his support I would have been done from tearing up stuff earlier in the year.”



Dalman and Stebner started on the front row for the 25-lap feature event. Dalman pulled into the early lead while Stebner battled with Gubaugh for second. The trio diced for the top position through lapped traffic before Grubaugh moved past Stebner to chase Dalman through lapped traffic. Just before halfway through the feature Grubaugh took the lead coming off turn four.



Dalman kept pace with Grubaugh until tangling with John Gall down the fronstretch. Gall retired to the infield with front end damage while Dalman restarted at the tail of the field.



From there Grubaugh endured multiple restarts and pulled away every time to hold on for the feature victory. Rutan, Stebner, Steve Irwin, and Brett Mann rounded out the top five.



Rutan, Dallman, and Stebner won the heat race events.
