Pro-Syn Oil Genesee Scramble Qualifiers Completed

Rich Vleck, Rochester, NY (August 19, 2007)- Just a week before the first sprint car event at Genesee Speedway of the Millennium, the six qualifying for events have been completed for the unique Pro-Syn Oil Technology Genesee Scramble Dash.

The six winners of the qualifying events, among the four sanctioning bodies/ tracks, will have first dibs on competing in this special event, featuring 1-on-1 sprint car competition for two laps per round. It is a regular sight in Australia, but in New York, the scramble format will be extremely unique to this event.

Before the first of two B-Mains, this event will take place, with the winner of the fifth and final showdown receiving a provisional position for the 32-lap, $2,000-to-win A-Main, if needed.

The qualifiers started off with the Empire Super Sprint swing to Southern Ontario, where Jeff VanDusen won at Ohsweken, followed by Bubby Kerrick capturing his second career win the next night at Merrittville.

Humberstone Speedway had their qualifier rained out on August 12, so their most recent event, held on July 15, was used for their position in this event. Tom Huppunen won that race, but will be in British Columbia this week, opening up the spot for track point leader Rob Pietz.

The ASCS Patriots had the next qualifier, held at the beginning of August at Ransomville, with George Suprick scoring the victory. If Suprick does not use that position, rookie Scott Kreutter will run at his hometown track.

The Southern Ontario Sprints saw one of their veterans, Keith Dempster, claim their qualifying race, held August 10 at Ohsweken Speedway.

The final qualifier was this past Saturday at the Canandaigua Speedway, as the “Cobra”, Chuck Hebing, cruised to the qualifying spot.

Any of the qualifying race winners are unable to start the Pro-Syn Scramble Dash, the runner-up from that race will be the next in line.

The Western NY Sprint Nationals is the first race at the 1/3-mile Genesee Speedway in 11 years. The winner of that event in 1996, Mike Lauterborn, is now the promoter of the Batavia, NY facility, and dreamed of this event since the day he took over the speedway.
