Two Action-Packed Nights of Racing Scheduled for SSP This Weekend

Newberrytown, PA (August 16, 2007) – This weekend, the Susquehanna Speedway Park will be in action on both Saturday and Sunday nights with two exciting and fun-filled events.

On Saturday, August 18, Stock Car Saturday Night returns with the 5th round of the Clean Technologies Young Guns Shootout along with the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stocks, Four Cylinder Stock Cars and Susquehanna Recyclers Mini Vans.

The fifth of six Young Guns Street Stock 5-lap dash races presented by Clean Technologies will also take place on Saturday night. The dash features all drivers ages 21 and younger in the Street Stock division. Last month, Joey Hoffer won his second straight Shootout dash to take the lead in the series point battle by one point over Chad Smith (24) and by three points over Eric Walker (22). Hoffer has 25 points. Jenn Scott (11), Dave Thomspon Jr. (10), Calvin Herman (8) and Garrett Shover (4) have also accumulated points in the 6-race series. The champion of the six race series will collect $100.00 with $50.00 going to second and $25.00 to third and fourth place.

Beth Christine from Manchester was the name drawn last weekend to receive the “ride of a lifetime” in the Superior Home Race Car Ride-Along with Ray Broderick. She will receive a few laps in the passenger seat of Ray’s Xtreme Stock Car. Every week one ticket will be drawn from the adult general admission tickets to win a ride for the week after.

On Saturday, the pit gates will open 4:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5:00 p.m. Warmups begin at 6:30 p.m. with qualifying races at 7:00 p.m. followed by consolation races and feature events.

Then on Sunday, August 19 racing returns with Camera & Autograph Night for the rain-postponed Memorial Day Spectacular from Sunday night, May 27 featuring the Central PA 358 Sprint Cars, ARDC Midgets, Legends Cars and PENN MAR Vintage Cars. The 20-lap 358 Sprint Car feature event will be presented by Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic from Finksburg , Maryland paying $1,200 to the winner. Hoosier Tires will be the only tire permitted on all four corners of the car with the Spec Right Rear required as similar to all other area 358 Central PA speedway rules (SC12, SC15 or SC25). Mufflers are not required for the 358 Sprint Cars only. Both pit and grandstand rainchecks may be used from May 27 or August 5 for the race on Sunday, August 19. Since no cars were able to qualify before the rains hit the speedway, new entries for the race on August 19 will be permitted. All fans will have the opportunity to meet their favorite drivers with their cars on the frontstretch before the feature events begin.

On Sunday, the pit gates will open 3:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 4:00 p.m. Warmups begin at 5:30 p.m. with qualifying races at 6:00 p.m. followed by consolation races and feature events.

Last Saturday night, it was Camera and Autograph Night with two young future stars picking up their first career feature wins. Dover ’s Cam Zeigler picked up his first career win in the 20-lap Late Model feature event as did Joey Hofferfrom Annville in the exciting 20-lap Street Stock main event. Mike Goodwin from Wellsville won a very entertaining Xtreme Stock Cars 30 lapper. Brian Rehbein won the XSC Rookie Rumble and Daryl Sipe won the Speedway Auto Sales Mini Van feature. Kendra Knaub added to her career feature win total in the W.O.W. (Women on Wheels) Stock Cars. Bill Brown Sr. found his was back to the Classic Cars victory lane.
