Evoy outfoxes Sportsman Field for First Win at age 14 at Brockville

BROCKVILLE-The youth movement continues in the Sportsman division at Brockville Ontario Speedway. Dylan Evoy in just his fourth Sportsman start brought the entire house to its feet with a dramatic move on the final turn of the final lap to score his first ever DIRT Sportsman feature on Saturday night at the fast quarter mile. The youngster was so excited as he exited the car he almost fell down in victory lane prior to the customary roof dance before a capacity crowd.

Evoy started fourth in the 20 lap feature and quickly pulled into second spot behind Bob Albright just after the lone restart of the race on lap 2. Albright left the youngster with nothing to work with for lap after lap until they final started to approach the back of the field on the final circuit. Albright opted to go low in turn 3 leaving the teenager who had a stellar record in go kart competition before joining the Sportsman ranks in the last month, the high side of the race track. Evoy rocketed around the top side taking the lead with just feet to go to the finish line. He's the 3rd 14 year old to win in the Sportsman division at Brockville following in the footsteps of Chris Raabe and Bobby Herrington as the among the youngest open wheeled winners in DIRT history. Jason Riddell and Raabe had a back and forth battle all night before settling for 3rd and 4th respectively with Chris Herbison rounding out the fast five.

It was experience that paid off in the 30 lap 358 DIRT Modified feature battle as the string of new winners continued as well. It looked like Kyle Dingwall had checked out on the entire field until that is a caution flag flew on lap 25. That was exactly what the doctor ordered for Mark Hitchcock. Hitchcock went on the attack on the restart blew past Dingwall on the inside of turns 1 and 2 to take the lead and score his first win since early last season. Dingwall settled for second with Danny O Brien, Mike Adderley and Adam Moore in pursuit as the checkered flag fell.

The Empire Super Sprints made their lone visit to the Beast of the East on Saturday night and the evening turned into the Tommy Wickham show. Wickham won the dash for cash and despite starting fourth led every lap in a 25 circuit caution filled affair. It was his first ever Sprint Car victory. The race was red flagged three times for rollovers and crashes mostly in turn 4, no one was injured but some equipment was torn up pretty good. Jeff Van Dusen was a distant second at the end with Steve Poirier working his way up to third with local favorites Kyle Wilson and Chris Jones in tow.

Billy Code took another step towards defending his Street Stock track championship holding off a hard charging Dominic Gauvreau in the 15 lap Street Stock main event. Jack Code, the early leader settled for third in front of Daniel Guidon and Dana Aikens. Joe Banks took the lead from father Pernie in early going and dominated the rest of the way taking the 16 lap Rookie event by almost a full straightaway over Gage Morin. Bob Ray was third followed by points leader Jessica Power and the senior Banks who crossed the line with a crippled race car.

Brockville Ontario Speedway returns to action next Saturday night, August 25th with a full race program plus an appearance by the vintage cars. It's the next to last points night of the season as well. The green flag drops at 7pm.
