Billet Wins Number Six at SSP on Saturday Night; First Wins of the Season Go to Dove, Heller, Frye and Svendsen
Newberrytown, PA (August 18, 2007) – Stock Car Saturday Night at the Susquehanna Speedway Park found Carl Billet of Carlisle returning to the Late Model victory lane for the sixth time this season. Lebanon ’s Stephen Dove won his first of the season on the 20-lap Street Stock main event. Carlisle ’s Chris Heller won his first career victory in the always entertaining Xtreme Stock Cars 30 lapper. Grant Adams from Ono won his second straight in the Four Cylinder Stock Car feature event. Nancy Frye of York was a popular winner in her first win of the year the XSC Rookie Rumble and Etters’ Jeff Svendsen won the Susquehanna Recyclers Mini Van feature. Chad Smith won the Clean Technologies Young Guns Shootout.
In the 20-lap Late Model feature event, Chuck Yingling, Jr. jumped out to the early lead. Yinging led until current SSP point leader got by on the 17th lap and went on to pick up the win. Scott Richwine wound up second with Richard Walls in third. Charles Potts and Bud Witmer rounded out the top five. The next five spots went to Sterling Kinard, Randy Christine, Jr., Bob Scott, Jr., Justin Ehrhart and Kyle Saylor. Qualifying heat wins went to Bud Barton, Sam Leonard, Jr. and Yingling.
The 20-lap Street Stock feature found Chad Smith leading the first two laps until Stephen Dove took it over from Smith on the third lap. Dove continued to lead the remainder of the laps but not without heavy pressure from second place finished Wes Alleman. Dustin Hollinger, Todd Bowersox and Smith rounded out the top five. Sixth through tenth were Craig Morgan, George Eash, Sam Leonard, Jr., Joe Whiteley and Kevin Sigler. Heat were won by Hollinger, Smith, and Sigler. George Eash picked up the last chance race.
Chad Smith won the five lap Clean Technologies Young Guns Shootout with a last lap pass in turn 2 over Jenn Scott. Scott battled back but spun on the final turn. Eric Walker finished second, followed by Joey Hoffer, Jimmy Slaseman and Scott.
Chris Heller took the lead on the ninth lap from Andrew Frye in the 30-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature and never looked back to win his first career event. Second place finisher Jason Failor gave Heller heavy pressure but could not make the pass for the win. Thomas Johns, Michael Goodwin, and Ray Broderick rounded out the top five. Tommy Slanker, Donnie Broderick, Larry Landis, Adam Smith and Bill Fulton completed the top ten.
Nancy Frye picked up her first XSC Rookie Rumble feature event of the season over John Stoll Jr., Daryl Sipe, Matt Adams and Dustin Pietrak.
The 20-lap Four Cylinder Stock Cars feature event had Wendell Dove, Jr. leading lap one but he was quickly overtaken by Ralph Morgan, Jr. on the next circuit. Morgan continued to lead until Grant Adams made it by Morgan on the 16th lap and continued to hold onto the lead for the win. Morgan finished second, followed by John Stoll, Jr., Ed Hollenbach and Dave Leiby. Heats were won by Morgan, Jr. and Ronnie Buck.
Jeff Svendsen led all 10 laps of the Susquehanna Recyclers Mini Van feature event to also pick up his first win of the season over Lance Danmyer, Daryl Sipe, Butch Richcreek, Jr. and Scott Hughes.
Beth Christine from Manchester took the ride of her life as she was the winner for the Superior Home Race Car Ride-Along with Ray Broderick. She received a few laps in the passenger seat of Ray’s Xtreme Stock Car. Every week one ticket will be drawn from the adult general admission tickets to win a ride for the week after. This week’s winner for the ride-along on Saturday, August 25 is Ron Brown from Hummelstown.
Tomorrow, Sunday, August 19 racing returns with Camera & Autograph Night for the rain-postponed Memorial Day Spectacular from Sunday night, May 27 featuring the Central PA 358 Sprint Cars, ARDC Midgets, Legends Cars and PENN MAR Vintage Cars. The 20-lap 358 Sprint Car feature event will be presented by Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic from Finksburg , Maryland paying $1,200 to the winner. Hoosier Tires will be the only tire permitted on all four corners of the car with the Spec Right Rear required as similar to all other area 358 Central PA speedway rules (SC12, SC15 or SC25). Mufflers are not required for the 358 Sprint Cars only. Both pit and grandstand rainchecks may be used from May 27 or August 5 for the race on Sunday, August 19. Since no cars were able to qualify before the rains hit the speedway, new entries for the race on August 19 will be permitted. All fans will have the opportunity to meet their favorite drivers with their cars on the frontstretch before the feature events begin.
On Sunday, the pit gates will open 3:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 4:00 p.m. Warmups begin at 5:30 p.m. with qualifying races at 6:00 p.m. followed by consolation races and feature events.
On Saturday, August 25, Stock Car Saturday Night returns with the Members First FCU Kid’s Money Scramble and the Great American School Bus Championship along with the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stocks, Legends Cars and Classic Cars.
On Saturday, the pit gates will open 4:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5:00 p.m. Warmups begin at 6:30 p.m. with qualifying races at 7:00 p.m. followed by consolation races and feature events.
General Admission Grandstand ticket prices for both Saturday and Sunday nights will be Adults and Teens (13 & older) $12.00; Children (12 & under) are free. Pit pass prices are $20.00 with a reduced price of $18.00 for all pit competitor license holders. The minimum age requirement to purchase a pit pass is 14 years of age with a copy of a birth certificate is required for all ages 14 to 17.
There is a $2.00 repeat fan discount for each person with a ticket stub from races during the previous week’s events completed only. Returning fans are encouraged to write their name, address and phone number on the back of the stub to be entered into special drawings during the season for great prizes. Last season, 10 winners were drawn from the repeat fans and each winner received $30 in SSP Gift Certificates for tickets or concessions. The Repeat Fan Discount is not valid for pit pass purchases.
