Brady Fultz Reigns Supreme Before Rain Halts Black Rock Action
Rich Vleck, DUNDEE, NY (August 17, 2007)- Rain would be the ultimate winner on Friday Night at the Black Rock Speedway, but before it hit, three drivers would find their way to Victory Lane.
Brady Fultz picked up his second career feature win in dramatic fashion, making a last-lap pass on Todd Henderson to win the third leg of the Leaf Racewear Lake-to-Lake Challenge as part of the Hoselton Automotive Crate Sportsman division.
Fultz was sitting in third with just two laps remaining, but would get a crack at the lead after Larry Wight, who had just lost the lead to Henderson, dropped out of the event under a caution brought out after the No. 99 made contact with a lapped car.
Wight had led much of the event, taking the lead from Marcus Dinkins on lap five, but Craig Gardner became too much for the rookie to hold off the hard-charging Todd Henderson.
On the final restart, with both the white and green flag waving from Starter Scott Hixson, Fultz got a quality run in his Suzuki No. 70 TEO off of turn two and dove down to the bottom of turn three to bid for the lead. The car stuck on the inside of the speedway, allowing the Dundee, NY rookie to take the lead and charge back to the double checkered flags, to the appraisal of a quality crowd.
It was the first win for the division point leader since May 11, who has held the point lead since that night early in the season. He now commands a 39-point advantage with only two point races remaining.
Henderson would hang on to second, allowing him to gain his advantage in the Lake-to-Lake Challenge. Henderson would pick up that title the following night at Canandaigua.
Justin Wright was again solid, scoring a third place finish to move him back into third. Marcus Dinkins scored a career-best fourth place showing. Mike Entwistle completed the top-five.
Early in the night, before the first heavy thunderstorm hit the Yates County Powerplant, Dylan Cecee had another strong showing in the HomeNecessites.com Bandit Division. It was the fourth win of the year for Cecee, but the first in three months.
Cecee took the lead from Courtney McMinds on lap three and drove away from the pack, picking up the win over Cody Moorehouse, Rocker Austin, and C.J and Chad Winslow, who completed the top-five.
The Midstate Vintage Stockcars were also on hand on the night, which was presented by Pepsi and Re-Max Realty & Rental. Their feature ran caution-free with James Hilimire scoring the overall win in the 70’s class, with Bob Ripley scoring the victory in the 50’s/60’s class.
Another highlight on the night was the old-timers race, featuring racers from the past at Black Rock. Harold Secord picked up the win in the primary event, with Hal Paine picking up the win in the second event. It was a great trip down memory lane for all.
Seven laps into the Signs Plus of Kanona 4-cylinder Feature, just after point leader Del Cummings made a pass for the lead, the rains moved in to wipe out the rest of the racing action on the night. This feature will be completed this Friday.
The Freedom Village USA Super Stocks, Street Stocks and Regional Truck Pro Trucks were also rained out on the night. The Super Stocks now have the week off next Friday, so their feature, along with the Ladies Super Stock event, will be August 31. The Street Stocks and Pro Trucks will also run next week.
