USAC National Sprint Car Series to Visit Sharon Speedway for the First Time in 20 Years on Saturday
Tickets - $18 for adults, $5 for kids; gates open at 4 p.m., practice at 6 p.m.
HARTFORD, Ohio; August 22, 2007 - For the first time since 1987, the United States Auto Club (USAC) National Sprint Car Series will invade Sharon Speedway on Saturday night for a 30-lap feature event.
This will mark USAC's initial visit to the 3/8-mile configuration at Sharon Speedway. The National Sprint Series' last visit came in 1987 when Kenny Jacobs drove to victory lane when the speedway was in its 1/2-mile configuration. Saturday will also be the first laps by wingless sprint cars on the new configuration at Sharon Speedway.
The USAC National Sprint Car Series is one of three USAC National divisions. The series competes from coast to coast and on dirt along with pavement. The National Sprint Car Series, which officially began in 1961, was originally founded on the principle of preparing drivers for Indy Car rides with ambitions to reach the Indy 500. A.J. Foyt, Mario Andretti, Johnny Rutherford and Al Unser are just a few names who competed in the USAC sprint car division and then went on to the Indy 500, and ultimately won the most prestigious race in the world. Recent graduates of the Nation Sprint Car Series include Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart and J. J. Yeley.
This season, Levi Jones, who pilots the Tony Stewart Racing No. 20, is the man currently sitting atop the series standings. Jones has visited victory lane four times this season (Lawrenceburg Speedway - April 21, Anderson Speedway - May 23, Grandview Speedway - June 6 and Hagerstown Speedway - June 9). Darren Hagen is currently occupying second in the standings, 104 markers out of the lead. Dave Darland, Brady Bacon and Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. are the drivers who round out the top five in the standings.
Tickets for Saturday evening's show will be available at a price of $18 for adults (14 and older), $5 for kids (6-13) and free for children five and younger. Pit passes are $27. Fans are encouraged to order tickets in advance to guarantee a spot in the Pit Party at intermission. Order online at www.sharonspeedway.com or call 330-772-1186.
The gates open at 4 p.m., with practice slated for 6 p.m., qualifying at 6:30 p.m. and racing at 7:30 p.m. Fans can call (330) 772-5481 or visit www.sharonspeedway.com for more information and directions.
