AUTOGRAPH NIGHT JOINS REGULAR SHOW THIS SUNDAY AT UTICA - ROME SPEEDWAY
VERNON , NY- This Sunday, August 26, Old Forge Powersports and Heroux Excavating present the racing action at the Utica-Rome Speedway with a regular show of 358-Modifieds, Sportsman, Pro Stocks, Pure Stocks, and IMCA Modifieds on tap. Also scheduled is the fan favorite Autograph Night, which allows fans an opportunity to meet their favorite drivers. Gates open at 3 p.m. with racing at 5:30 p.m.
The chase for the $8,000 358-Modified championship got a little tighter after this past Sunday night’s events, as point leader Stewart Friesen had mechanical issues which dropped him from competition. Second and third place point men Pat Ward and Willy Decker each pounced on the chance to gain points by each winning a segment of the Twin 20 feature events. While Friesen’s point lead remains healthy, any more problems could put his championship hopes in jeopardy. Following Friesen, Ward, and Decker in the standings is Ted Lamb, Todd Burley, Bobby Varin, Gus Schmidt, John Ramsey, Bill Shantel Jr., and AJ Romano.
Defending Sportsman champion Mike Button holds just a six point edge in the standings over Alan Barker with Matt Janczuk, Casey Williams, and Jeremy Vunk. A look at the Pro Stock standings shows Jerry Holmes right he finished last season and that is leading the standings. A strong group of competitors are giving chase, drivers like Tom Denton, Bret Belden, Chris Mackey, and Bill Knapp. Like Holmes, Russ Marsden is again showing the fast way around the Vernon oval as he again is atop the standings over Tim Janczuk, Chris Carr, Matt Ball, and Chris Cunningham. In IMCA Modified action, defending champion Jim Roberts is leading the way over Aaron Jacobs, Kevan Cook, Mike Jacobs, and Ken Rogers.
Grandstand admission is just $11 for adults with children nine and under admitted for free.
