“The Cobra” strikes again to take the first annual Western New York 360 Sprint Car Shoot-Out.
Batavia, NY—August 25, 2007--By: Chris Rhynold, Media/Racer Relations Director
Chuck Hebing has done it once again. The man known as “The Cobra” dominated yet another 360 sprint race and has gone on to win yet another multi sanctioned race. Although Hebing never took control of the race until lap 8 of the 32 lap main event, once he got to the point he was virtually untouchable.
Ken Hixenbaugh led the Dickinson’s Auto Service Mini Stocks to the green for the 15 lap main event for the class. Ken Hixenbaugh, Dan Norton and Bobby Dickinson rounded out the top 3 after lap #1. Hixenbaugh and Dickinson came together as Dickinson attempted to take the lead from Hixenbaugh which resulted in Dickinson sliding into the infield. Norton and Jason Hull would move by Hixenbaugh as he slid up track opening the door for them to slip by. Norton and Hull would run nose to tail and looked as if Norton was going to go on to win his 3rd of the season, but the yellow came out on lap 13 when Ken Hixenbaugh lost the handle on his car in turn 3. Norton would continue to control the lead on the restart holding off charges by Hull. Hull would get a run off turn 2 but Norton would pull him down the back stretch and went on to score his 3rd feature of the season.
Heat Winners-Heat #1 Ken Hixenbaugh, Heat #2 Brandon Aradine
Fast timer Kyle Moffit would pace the B-Main field to the green. Moffit couldn’t transfer through his heat and had to try and get in the field though the B Main. Moffit would check out on the field and leave them in his dust. However the highlight of the race was the battles that Genesee Speedway Promotor Mike Lauterborn had with Blake Breen and Keith Dempster for the final transfer spot.
Ken Begnouche and Dave Bansmer set the front row of the Bobcat of Buffalo Street Stock feature. A four way battle between Ken Begnouche , Bill Weller, Colton Chappius and Jeb Walworth. Weller would take the lead for only one lap as Chappius stole the point from Weller on lap 6. Walworth would begin to challenge Weller for the runner up spot. Walworth’s night would come to an end early as he pulled off the speedway on lap 10. Chappius opened up a full straight lead over Weller by lap 16 and was set on kill as he was showing no mercy on the field. Chappius would go on to collect his 3rd feature win at Genesee Speedway of the season.
Heat Winners – Heat #1 Dan Pries, Heat #2 Colton Chappius
Jared Zimbardi and Bryan Howland would pace the field to the green for the 1st sprint car event in 11 years at Genesee Speedway. Zimbardi would lead lap 1 with Howland and Stelter in tow. Caution would fly on lap 3 as Alain Bergeron spun entering turn 3. Zimbardi would still control the field on the restart with Mike Stelter giving chase. Chuck Hebing was starting to put the heat on Stelter for the runner up spot. Hebing would take the spot from Stelter on lap 8 and set his sights on Zimbardi. It would take Hebing one lap to get the job done as he cruised by Zimbardi for the lead and checked out as he started to pick off lap cars. Chris Muhleisen would bring out the yellow as he came to a stop in turn 4 with a bright orange glowing rear brake rotor. Even with the field bunching up, everyone was racing for 2nd place as Chuck Hebing was in a different zip code. After the restart Jeff Van Dusen was the mover as he got an excellent jump and gained 2 spots right off the hop and was having a very tight battle with Mike Stelter and Jared Zimbardi. Zimbardi and Van Dusen would lean a little on each other resulting in Zimbardi going around and bringing out the yellow and losing his runner up spot. Stelter would inherit the 2nd spot. The field would go green for 3 laps before the yellow would fly again for debris on the track. Van Dusen and Stelter would battle for laps with Stelter holding off Van Dusen, however as they would battle Hebing was getting away from the field again. With one to go no one could touch Hebing as he went on to collect the win in the inaugural Western New York 360 Sprint Car Shoot-Out.
