TWIN 20s AUGUST 31 -- UNIQUE FORMAT FOR 3-DIVISION SHOW SEPT.
2

MECHANICSBURG, PA -- Williams Grove Speedway will host two
special events over the Labor Day weekend with sprint car racing as the
featured attraction on both Friday August 31, and Sunday, September 2.
Twin 20-lap features for sprint cars will highlight Friday night's
program with the first heat scheduled to start at 8:00. A fireworks
display will follow the racing.
There will be no time trials for the twin 20s.
The speedway's usual handicapping system will be used to line up
the qualifying heats and the first feature. The winner will draw for
inversion in the second feature.
Triple 20-lap features run at Williams Grove on August 17 produced
three different winners in Fred Rahmer, Don Kreitz, Jr. and Mark Smith.
With a tight point race between defending Cindy Rowe Auto Glass
champion Rahmer and former champion Todd Shaffer, along with first time
contender Jeff Shepard, the twin 20s could go a long way in deciding who
will wear the crown this year.
A fireworks display will follow the races on Friday night.
The special Sunday night program on the eve of Labor Day will be a
rare open wheel triple header featuring sprint cars, limited (358 c.i.)
sprints and super sportsman cars.
While the usual qualifying procedure for sprint cars will be in
effect, a unique format will be introduced for the other two divisions.
The top ten drivers in both the limited and sportsman point
standings will be locked into their respective features and will
comprise rows two through six in the starting lineup. They will be
inverted with the point leaders starting twelfth and the tenth-ranked
drivers starting third.
The remainder of the field will be divided into two qualifying
races for each division. The qualifying races will be lined up with the
high point drivers starting at the front of each race.
The winners of the qualifying races will earn front row starting
positions for their respective features.
The next six finishers in each qualifying race will fill rows seven
through twelve in their feature lineup.
Instead of a possible eight heats and four consolation races for
the sportsman and limited sprints combined, the new format will require
only four qualifying events.
"This format will keep the qualifying races to a minimum and should
allow the fans to see three open wheel features within a reasonable
time frame," said Justin Loh, co-general manager of Williams Grove
Speedway.
The September 2 program will start at 7:00.
