GENE KNAUB SCORES IN GROVE LATE MODELS
MECHANICSBURG, PA – Gene Knaub held off the division point leader to win the 20-lap Weikel Racewear limited (358 c.i.) late model feature Saturday night at Williams Grove Speedway.
Dave Shulski took the early lead in the 20-lap championship event and set the pace while Knaub, who started eleventh, was moving through traffic.
Knaub was into the runnerup spot by lap nine and began to challenge Sokoloski for the lead.
Using an outside move through turns one and two Knaub took the lead on lap twelve.
Meanwhile the current point leader, Tyler Hershey, and runnerup Tyler Armstrong were advancing from the rear. Both were involved in an early altercation and were forced to restart at the back of the pack. By lap 16, however, Armstrong was second and Hershey was third.
Armstrong was able to challenge Knaub on several occasions, but Knaub prevailed for his second victory of the season.
Armstrong settled for second. Hershey held off Jake Lettich to finish third. Travis Mease completed the top five.
Dave Shulski, Larry Baer, D. J. Mease, John Ebersole and Matt Nailor finished in positions six through ten respectively.
Limited late model heats were won by Jerry Bard, Armstrong and Hershey
John Stoll, Jr. led flag-to-flag for his fourth victory of the season in the 15-lap 4-cylinder stock car feature.
Heats for the 4-cylinder stocks were won by Ed Hollenbach and Stoll.
Kory Sites started 7th, took the lead on the eighth lap from Gary Johnston, and went on to score his fifth win of the season in the 15-lap street stock feature sponsored by Heritage Acres.
David Wilhelm won the 25-lap enduro sponsored by Superior Homes.
There were 23 street stocks, 20 4-cylinder stocks, 22 street stocks and 13 enduro stocks in competition.
