FIREWORKS & TIGHT POINT BATTLES HIGHLIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP NIGHT AT BREWERTON SPEEDWAY THIS FRIDAY AUGUST 31
BREWERTON, NY – The DIRTcar Modifieds will be highlighted with a hotly contested track championship point battle between Willy Decker, defending champion Alan Johnson, and Kevin Bates this Friday August 31 at Brewerton Speedway on Tired Iron Repair Night. The final night of track points will see the DIRTcar Modifieds, IMCA Modifieds, ESDCA Mod Lites, 4-Cylinder Super Stocks, and 4-Cylinder Enduro racers all do battle on the “D-Shaped DIRT Demon”. After the races, a gigantic fireworks display will be held to celebrate the Labor Day Weekend. Race time at the track now prepared by Jeremie Corcoran is set for 7:30pm.
Fierce rivals Willy Decker and Alan Johnson have been battling nearly all season for the DIRTcar Modified track title, and the decision will likely come down to the final lap of Friday’s 35-lap feature event. Willy Decker retook the lead last Friday after a broken shock tower slowed Johnson down, a mere eleven points now separate the contenders in the exciting battle. Decker is looking for his first ever Brewerton championship, while Johnson is looking for his fifth in the last six seasons. Interestingly enough, Kevin Bates is just one point behind Johnson and could also become champion. Chuck Bower and Jim Witko complete the top five in the standings to date.
In the IMCA Modified division, it appears Kevan Cook will win his first ever track title. Cook has been a true model of consistency all season long, even though Dale Caswell has dominated the class with nine feature wins. Pete Anderson, Greg Kimball, and Rich Riggs are the rest of the top five. Doug Williams recently took the point lead in the ESDCA Mod Lites after recent bad luck for brother Dan who has led the entire season. Twenty-one points now separate the duo, with new feature winner Lowell Zehr, Tim Devendorf, and Justin Crisafulli the top five.
Young Claude Hutchings Jr. just needs to start the 4-Cylinder Super Stock feature on Friday to claim his first track title. Hutchings has six wins on the season and has been consistent when not in victory lane. Chuck Powelczyk, Matt Wetterer, Chris Kranz, and Chad Dupra complete the top five. Young Josh Herbert has already claimed the 4-Cylinder Enduro title, with Jerry Curcie Jr., Jerry Herbert, Devon Rookey, and Jay Elhage left to fight out positions two through five.
After the races a gigantic fireworks display will be held just off of turn two to celebrate the Labor Day Holiday Weekend. If the show held earlier this season for Independence Day Weekend is any indication of how Friday’s fireworks will be, race fans will be in for a real treat. A tremendous show is expected this Friday, with the racing moving along at a fast pace on the well manicured track.
The gates this Friday August 31 at Brewerton Speedway on Tired Iron Repair Night will open at 5:30pm with racing beginning on time at 7:30pm. Admission prices are set at $14 for Adults, $7 for ages 10-14, and children 9 and under are free with a paid adult. Pit admission is $20 for DIRT/IMCA Members and $25 for Non-Members.
