THUNDER MOUNTAIN MAKES IT HALFWAY BEFORE BRUTAL STORM STRIKES

By: Nick Stark

CENTER LISLE, NY --- All day long, the weather appeared as if it would
hold
out to be a warm, clear evening for racing, and for most of the night
it did
hold off. As the Autoworks of Ithaca Sportsman Modifieds rolled onto
the
speedway, so did the monstrous wind gusts, sending fans reeling for
safety.
The track was immediately cleared, as were the grandstands, with the
storm
rapidly approaching. Just one minute later, everyone was given a
snapshot
of what a real “Hurricane on the Mountain” would look like, with 60+
mile
per hour wind gusts and torrential downpours. At this point, track
promoter, Dick Stark, decided it would be in everyone’s best interest
to
call it an evening. With the show halfway completed, it is considered
a
complete show, and the features scheduled will be added on to the two
final
points nights forthcoming. Hats off and a big thank you goes out to
the
Thunder Mountain crew for doing such a stellar job in getting the fans
to
safety.

Next weekend, Thunder Mountain Speedway will play host to the New York
Modified Midgets for another action packed night from this group. The
Midstate Vintage Club will also be in attendance, along with a full
card of
regular scheduled racing action. The Sportsman, 600cc Modifieds,
Hurricane
Street Stocks, Road Warriors, and Road Bandits are all scheduled to do
battle. Gates will open at 4 PM, with the racing getting underway at
6:30
PM.

Thunder Mountain is the home of the 5th Annual “Hurricane” Race Weekend
on
September 21st and 22nd. Friday night’s card includes a $1200 to win
Sportsman Modified special, along with numerous other extra money
events for
the evening. Then Saturday night’s show will of course be the 5th
Annual
Hurricane Harry Uhl Jr. Hurricane Street Stock Memorial. This event
pays
$1455 to win along with lap money and contingencies. Also on tap for
that
night will be the “Run Whatcha Brung” Open. $1200 will be on the line
in
this potpourri of racecars doing battle for the cash. The entire
schedule
for the weekend can be viewed online at www.thunderracetrack.com.

The Speedway is located off exit 8 of Interstate 81. From there follow
route
79 west for five miles and turn right in Center Lisle and follow the
signs.
