Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN won his third consecutive "Bluegrass Classic" on Saturday Night at the Bluegrass Speedway. Bloomquist earned $10,000 for the victory in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanctioned event. Brad Neat of Dunnville, KY came from the 20th starting spot to finish second followed by Billy Drake of Bloomington, IL, Terry English of Benton, KY and Justin Rattliff of Campbellsville, KY.
Dan Schlieper led the first 17 laps in a tight battle for the lead with three other drivers. Earl Pearson, Jr. then took to the inside groove and moved into the lead on lap 18 passing Schlieper, who fell to second. Schlieper then regained the lead until a caution flag on lap 24 would see Schlieper head to the pit area ending his night.
Pearson then inherited the lead after Schlieper went out and he led until Bloomquist who started second in the race went by him for the lead. Bloomquist then waited through four more caution flags but had no problem with restarts as he comfortably went on for the victory before a packed grandstand.
Neat and Drake would have a great for second running side by side for several laps with Neat finally clearing Drake with less than ten laps to go.
Completing the top ten were Steve Casebolt, Jason Keltner, Mike Marlar, Damon Eller and Earl Pearson, Jr.
In preliminary action Earl Pearson, Jr. was the LifeLong Locks Fast Time Award winner with a fast lap of 14.896 seconds among the 46 entrants. Earl Pearson, Jr., Dan Schlieper, Scott Bloomquist and Mike Marlar won the Hawk Brake and Quarter Master sponsored heat races. The Mason Racin' Rebel Shock Dyno and Penske Shocks B-Mains went to Billy Drake and Freddy Smith.
The next Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event will be on Saturday Night, September 1st at the Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, WV for the "Hillbilly 100" paying $25,000 to win. For more information you can visit www.tylercountyspeedway.net.
