Big-Block Twin 53s Headline Advance Auto Parts Series Stop At Cayuga County

The 2007 regular-season of DIRTcar Racing at Cayuga County Fair Speedway comes to a close Sunday, Sept. 2 with a return of the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series plus DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds and UMP/DIRTcar Street Stocks. Big-Block Modifieds will be contending in a pair of 53-lappers while two 25-lap features are on the docket for Sportsman. The Finger Lakes Radio Group-Stafford Auto Group tripleheader includes a 20-lap Street Stock main event.
Fanfare continues throughout the day as the second annual Tailgating Competition takes place on the fairgrounds during the afternoon and Fan Foto & Autograph Night spills over to the speedway by early evening. Track officials will be recognizing the hard core tailgaters who know no limits when it comes to pre-race activity. Prizes for Best Looking Site, Best Food – Taste, Best Food – Selection, Best Dressed, Most Race-Oriented Theme and an Overall Speedway Tailgating Champion will be awarded to honor the most extraordinary exhibits on Sunday afternoon. Judges will be roaming the fairgrounds from 1-5 p.m. Drivers will posing alongside their cars on the front stretch, meeting and greeting race fans following Integra Shocks Time Trials at 6:30 p.m.
When the final checkered flags wave on Sunday, a track champion will be declared in the DIRTcar Modified, Sportsman and Street Stock divisions. Jimmy Phelps (Mod), Jeremy Pitcher (Spt) and Nick Rizzo are the current Cayuga County front-runners while Bill Werner clinched the 2007 Cayuga County Street Stock crown in last Sunday’s class points finale.
In Advance Auto Parts Series competition through 20 races, Tim Fuller leads Brett Hearn by just 10 points with Billy Decker another 24 markers back. Fuller and Danny Johnson (6th in tour points) split the 53-lappers run Aug. 19 at CCFS. Cayuga County favorite Phelps improved to fifth in the Series standings after posting a pair of top-5s in the recent doubleheader at The Port, where he is a four-time winner in ’07.
The 2007 season officially concludes in Weedsport the month of October with a trio of special events highlighting the autumn agenda.
During Super DIRT Week XXXVI, Cayuga County hosts a Caprara Bros. Outdoor Toy Store Mr. DIRTcar Street Stock Super Series showdown plus an ESDCA Mod Lite/New York Modified Midget twin-bill on Friday, October 5, then comes back the next night with the popular ‘Win & You’re In Twins’ for Modifieds along with a full show of BRP Late Models. The 'Goblin 200' BattleKarz Championship arrives for full-fender stockers on Sunday, Oct. 28 with all the action starting at 1 p.m.
