GIGANTIC FIREWORKS DISPLAY SET FOR TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP NIGHT THIS SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 1 AT FULTON SPEEDWAY

FULTON, NY – Fireworks will be flying through the air as the 2007 race season Track Champions are crowned this Saturday September 1 at Fulton Speedway. In race action on the final point night of the year are the headline DIRTcar Modifieds, DIRTcar Sportsman, Gypsum Express Crate Sportsman, UMP Pro Stocks, UMP Street Stocks, and 4-Cylinder Enduros. A gigantic fireworks display will be set off after dark in the dragstrip area to celebrate the Labor Day Weekend holiday. Racing at the historic Oswego County track will begin promptly at 7pm, with the fireworks display to conclude the evening after racing is over.

With last Saturday’s DIRTcar Modified feature event, Jimmy Phelps of Baldwinsville earned just enough points to claim the 2007 track title. Alan Johnson, who missed one event due to his daughter’s graduation, is assured second place in the standings. Positions second through eight are comprised of Kevin Bates, Dale Planck, Vinnie Vitale, Brian Weaver, Tom Sears Jr., and Chad Phelps, and those spots are only 57 markers apart. All of those drivers have a shot at a strong top five finish at the tough track. Saturday’s 35-lap main event will be the final tuneup before Victoria 200 Weekend, and several invading teams are a sure expectance. Just last week, Pat Ward and Billy Decker invaded the high banks to prepare for the Victoria 200.

Long-time Fulton Speedway DIRTcar Sportsman competitor Jeremy Pitcher just needs to take the green flag to earn his first ever, hard-earned track championship in the competitive class. Defending track champion Shawn Donath has been on a tear recently with five feature wins, but will be forced to settle for the runner-up spot in the points. John Pietrowicz, Sammy Reakes, IV, and Dave Reilley are the rest of the top five as of this writing. Timmy Sears Jr. is assured the Gypsum Express Crate Sportsman championship on the strength of six wins on the season and consistent finishes. Sean McCarthy, Mike Fowler, Brad Godshalk, and Katelyn Kane are the rest of the top five in the new highly successful class. Billy Clark Jr., the defending UMP Pro Stock champion, and Jason Parkhurst have been locked in a season-long battle for the UMP Pro Stock title. Clark currently holds a 32-point lead in the points over Parkhurst.

Ron Hawker of Jordan just needs to start the feature event on Saturday to claim the UMP Street Stock title, his first ever. Hawker has had a tremendous season with four feature wins as of this writing. Recent new feature winner Jim Wallace and Gary Barton are now tied for second in the standings, with Dan Hofmann Sr. and Steve Woodworth the remainder of the top five. Mark Johnston is headed for his first ever 4-Cylinder Enduro championship, with Jon Shumway, Jerry Herbert, Les Baker, and Marjorie Wallace set to duke it out for positions two through five.

After the races, a gigantic fireworks display will be held over the Fulton Speedway grounds, set off in the dragstrip area. The display will culminate in a tremendous grand finale that will excite both young and old alike to celebrate Labor Day.

Admission prices this Saturday September 1 for the holiday special are $14 for Adults, $7 for Ages 10-14, while children ages 9 and under are free with a paid adult. Fulton Speedway is conveniently located on Route 57, just two miles south of Fulton city limits.
