CLOSE POINT BATTLE CLOSES OUT CHAMPIONSHIP RACE AT GRANDVIEW ON SEPT. 1, RICH THP FREEDOM 76 RACE SET FOR SEPT. 8

BECHTELSVILLE, PA August 28, 2007 . . . Just 12 points separate point leader Jeff Strunk from challenger Duane Howard in the chase for the lucrative NASCAR Whelen All American Series Modified championship at Grandview Speedway. And in the NASCAR Late Models there is a one point difference between point leader Brian Shuey and second place Ron Kline.
Five time Modified champion Strunk, already the champion at Big Diamond Raceway, will be looking to gain his sixth title with a strong effort on Saturday night, September 1st, when the Modifieds are part of the Green Lane Wm. Penn/Four Star Lettering Night tripleheader. The green flag drops for racing action at 7:30 pm with the Legend cars joining the NASCAR Modifieds and Late Models.
Duane Howard, winner of four feature races this season at the Berks County one-third-mile, banked clay oval, is going for his fourth title.
The championship is worth more than $15,000 in point fund money and other awards from Grandview and NASCAR. A Champion’s Trip, valued at $3,000, to the Panama and two other islands will go to the top point man and his guest.
Brian Shuey has lead the Late Model point chase for much of the season and now takes just a one point edge into the final point event of the season. Past champion Ron Kline is second while Randy Stoudt, winner of five features this season, is third just 25 points behind.
Once the lucrative point championships are decided on Saturday night, all attention will turn to the THP Freedom 76 set for Saturday, September 8th at 7 pm.
With $20,000 going to the winner and $10,000 waiting for the second place finisher the event annually attracts the “cream of the crop” in area dirt track modified racers.
Legends Jimmy Horton and Kenny Brightbill have indicated they will be there along with Billy Pauch Jr. and a host of others. Brightbill won the classic race back in 1990.
Craig VonDohren, Jeff Strunk, Duane Howard, Ray Swinehart, Donny Erb and other Grandview regulars will be looking for a win in the lucrative 76-lap race. A $1,000 to win Cash Dash will feature some of the top event qualifiers.
The final opportunity to make the THP Freedom 76 will be the Schaeffer’s Motorsports Minuteman 20.
Advance tickets will be on sale at the track on Saturday, September 1st. Adult tickets are $25.00, youngsters (6 thru 11) pay $7, and kids accompanied by paying adults are admitted FREE. Rain date is September 15.
Gates will open at 3 pm for advance ticket holders and ticket windows open at 3:30 pm.
Open competition Modifieds and Late Models will be the featured attractions on Saturday, September 15 and 22.
Top performers from the 45th season of racing at Grandview Speedway will be honored at the annual awards banquet at the Kutztown, PA Fire Hall on November 10th.
Grandview Speedway is located on Passmore Road, just off Route 100, in Bechtelsville, PA, 10 miles north of Pottstown. For information telephone 610.754.7688 or check in at www.grandviewspeedway.com.
