Season's Final Point Battles To Rage at Sharon Speedway Saturday

"FANtastic Five" champions crowned; Deal or No Deal game for fans during intermission

HARTFORD, Ohio (Sept. 29, 2007) - The curtain will fall on the season-long drama of Sharon Speedway's FANtastic Five point battles Saturday night when champions are crowned following one more night of fast and furious racing on the 3/8-mile oval. The night's action will be sponsored by Trumbull Soil and Water Conservation and Mel Grata Toyota.

The closest battle has developed in the Warren Harley-Davidson Sprints division where Bob Flemlee holds just a seven-point lead over second-place Kevin Schaeffer. Mike Kekich sits in third, 135 points behind Schaeffer, with fourth-place Kyle Moffet trailing Kekich by 86 points and Bob Lime rounding out the top five 60 points behind Moffet.

The Gibson-Governor Insurance V-8 Modifieds division championship battle is a close one, too. Del Rougeux sits in first, just 50 points ahead of Brian Swartzlander. Jim Rasey is in third, trailing Swartzlander by 98 points, with Rob Kristyak on his tail 13 points back. Rex King is in the fifth position, 41 points behind Kristyak.

Another tight title fight is going on in the Coy Brothers Trucking E-Mods division. Howard Fraley has the top spot, but Jeff Sharp is just 23 points behind him. Bob McCann is in third, just 15 points behind Sharp. McCann's lead over fourth-pace Alan Dellinger is a little more comfortable at 83 points. Joe Gabrielson holds the fifth spot, trailing Dellinger by only 15 points.

The top spot in the Tom's Sewer & Drain Service Pure Stocks division is a little more clear cut with Steve D'Apolito leading Michael Aley by 137 points. Stan Woomer sits just seven points behind Aley and enjoys a comfortable 164-point lead over fourth place Dan Lewis. Tony Spaghetti trails Lewis by just 2 points in fifth.

Guy Griffin enjoys a 103-point lead over Eric Williams in the Limited Sprints division going into the final race. Williams sits 25 points ahead of Brandon Spithaler and Nathan Stein trails Spithaler by 133 points. Fifth-place Nick Miller is right on the heels of Stein, trailing him by just one point.

"These FANtastic Five points races are really close, so we're going to see some great racing Saturday night," said Dave Blaney, Sharon Speedway co-owner. "None of the division crowns are in the bag yet, so the on-track competition will be fierce. These drivers have put on great shows all season, and Saturday night is shaping up to be one of the best yet."

Fans attending the FANtastic Five final points event Saturday night will be able to watch the champions' celebrations and participate in the Speedway's version of Deal of No Deal for a variety of prizes including a 2008 season pass.

Tickets for Saturday's show are $11 for adults (16 and older), $5 for kids (12-15) and free for children 11 and younger. Pit passes are $22, and the pit gate opens at 3 p.m.

Saturday is a "Two for $2" night. Fans who bring two non-perishable food items for Second Harvest Food Bank this Saturday will receive $2 off the price of an adult general admission ticket. A representative will collect the food outside the gate from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. only. Everyone who donates two food items will receive a $2 coupon to present at the ticket window, bringing the price of an adult general admission ticket to just $9. All non-perishable food items are accepted, but canned meats, canned vegetables, tuna fish and peanut butter are needed most.

Gates open at 4 p.m. and racing starts at 6 p.m. Fans can call (330) 772-5481 or visit www.sharonspeedway.com for more information and directions.
