Newly crowned Track Champions look to defend their home turf against MACS and All Star Invasion.

Posted by Late Model Editor  |  08/31/07

Newly crowned Lernerville Speedway/Budweiser Track Champions Alex Ferree and Kevin Schaeffer will take to the track for the first time since officially being crowned champions and will face strong competition from two regional touring series. Newly crowned Pure Stock Champion Mike Pegher Jr. will also be taking to the track against local competitors for the final time before the season-ending Advance Auto Parts Autumn-Motive Fest.

Alex Ferree clinched the Friedman’s Freshmarkets Late Model Track Championship weeks ago, but the feat was finally recognized from victory lane last Friday Night. The win was his ninth of the season. With the Track Championship already on his resume, Alex will look to outduel the MACS Late Model Series drivers for a $5000 payday this Friday, August 31st. Ferree’s first win came three years ago in a MACS race in an edge-of-your-seat thriller over Jackie Boggs at the stripe. Former MACS Champion Mike Blose showed up with a brand new Rocket Chassis last weekend and was bad fast before breaking a rod in the feature. Five-time Lernerville Track Champion Lynn Geisler has suffered through a rough season, but is a threat anytime the #1 Cochran Rocket pulls onto the speedway. Geisler is sixth all-time with 8 feature wins in MACS competition and second all-time at Lernerville Speedway in Late Model Competition with 106 feature wins.

Recent Lernerville Feature Winner Rob Blair and recent USA 100 winner Jason Covert are engaged in a heavy battle for the 2007 MACS Championship. Both drivers will be favorites to hoist the $5000 check in Victory Lane this Friday Night at the Action Track!

“Cool” Kevin Schaeffer clinched his second consecutive Track Championship in the Commercial Truck & Trailer Sprint Cars last Friday Night. This Friday Night Kevin will be battling wheel-to-wheel with the All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car drivers in the Sonia Bullis Memorial. The last time the All Stars were in town, back on June 5, veteran driver Rod George nearly upset the invading touring regulars of the series and won the race. This Friday not only will Rod be gunning to defend his home track, he will also be racing for Sonia Bullis, longtime friend and sponsor. He has over 20 feature wins this season, but none will be sweeter than the Sonia Bullis Memorial.

With over 200 A-Main feature wins to his credit; “The Apollo Rocket” Ed Lynch Jr. is a favorite to pull into Victory Lane every take he pushes off onto the 4/10 mile Sarver oval. Lynch’s annual pilgrimage to Knoxville, IA may have cost him another track championship, but with almost 90 wins at Lernerville and multiple All Star feature wins, Lynch is a sure bet to be at the front of the pack this Friday Night.

Last week’s CT&T Sprint Feature winner Brian Ellenberger is an All Star tour regular and currently sits seventh in points. Right behind him in the points is 1991 Lernerville Track Champion Dale Blaney. Few sprint car drivers know their way around the Action Track as these two locals turned regional touring drivers.

Winner of the June 5 O’Reilly All Star race at Lernerville Danny Smith is still leading the O’Reilly All Star point standings as the season winds down. Veteran driver Greg Wilson is in second place behind Smith and will try to deny Danny back-to-back All Star feature wins at the Action Track. Lynch, Blaney, Smith and Wilson have all won races on the All Star Tour this season, Ellenberger, Schaeffer and George have all won races at Lernerville this season, so this race could be a wild one!

The 35-lap Sonia Bullis Memorial will also pay out lap money in addition to the generous purse. This memorial event for the former sprint car owner and sponsor is organized by Chad Hill. Hill drove for Bullis before her untimely death and he currently owns and operates Sirena Pizza. The evening’s racing event is sponsored by Cleveland Brothers CAT, which also sponsored the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup XVI earlier this season.

The Advance Auto Parts Pure Stocks are also on the schedule for one last tune-up before the two-day Pure Stock Pandemonium that headlines the Advance Auto Parts Autumn-Motive Fest on Friday & Saturday September 14th & 15th. The Pure Stock Pandemonium race is the highest paying event for the division all season at Lernerville Speedway. The winner will take home $2000, and every driver that starts the 30-lap feature event, (also the longest feature of the season for the division), is guaranteed $200 start money. There will also be two dash races that each pay $300 to win.

Newly crowned Track Champion Mike Pegher Jr. is always fast and will be a favorite to win both events. 10 different drivers have won A-Main feature events in the Advance Auto Parts Pure Stock division in 2007; only Pegher, Butch Lambert, Joe Kelley, Bob Lipinski and Paul Schreckengost have won more than one race this season. When you factor in that there will be no points on the line for either event, with a deep, talented field that is racing for big money, anything can happen when the Pure Stocks roll onto the Action Track. It’s easy to see why the race is headlined as Pure Stock Pandemonium!

Also on the bill for the two-day Advance Auto Parts Autumn-Motive Fest will be a $1000-to-win UMP Modified race and a $1000-to-win, 100-lap Enduro race Friday Night. Saturday Night will be the Pure Stock Pandemonium Feature, as well as Mod Lites and a Demo Derby. This Friday Night, Track Champion Mike Pegher Jr. will pick a name from the Fan of the Week applications filled out this season. The winner will receive four free passes to both nights of the Advance Auto Parts Autumn-Motive Fest.

Between the August 31st MACS Late Model, O’Reilly All Star Sprint, and Advance Auto Parts Pure Stocks event sponsored by Cleveland Brothers CAT and the Advance Auto Parts Autumn-Motive Fest on Friday & Saturday September 14th & 15th will be the “Back to School” Bus, Powder Puff, Senior Series, and Kids Bike Races sponsored by G&D Beverage on Saturday September 8th. Bob Egley and Christi Egli will be looking to repeat their “Summer Vacation” Bus Race victories. All kids participating in the Bike Races are required to wear a helmet. Eat & Park and the SMILEY Cookie Cruiser have generously donated 200 Smiley Face Cookies for all Bike Race participants.

For more details and ticket information for all three events, log in to www.lernerville.com or call the speedway office at (724) 353-1511.
